I was thinking about this and thought these two teams were probably the best Stoops has put together that made it but didn't win it all. Both made it to the championship game and were offensive powerhouses. Both also had Heisman winning quarterbacks taking snaps as well.

In 2003 the OU team scored 601 points and allowed 214.
In 2008 the OU team scored 716 points and allowed 343.

Bob Stoops 2003 coaching against Bob Stoops 2008.
Kevin Wilson's offense going against Mike Stoops' defense.
Chuck Long's offense going against Brent Venable's defense.
Jason White with Gerold McCoy in his face.
Sam Bradford with Tommie Harris in his face.

Both teams and coaching staffs line up on their side of the field.

Who takes it home?

1st Quarter
Ok2 9:10 FG Trey DiCarlo 38 yds. 3-0
Ok2 7:01 FG Trey DiCarlo 42 yds. 6-0
Ok2 1:41 TD Kejuan Jones 12 yd. run (DiCarlo kick) 13-0
2nd Quarter
Ok2 13:48 TD Renaldo Works 61 yd. run (DiCarlo kick) 20-0
Okla 2:43 FG Jimmy Stevens 25 yds. 20-3
3rd Quarter
Okla 8:05 TD DeMarco Murray 1 yd. run (Stevens kick) 20-10
Okla 1:20 FG Jimmy Stevens 41 yds. 20-13
4th Quarter
Ok2 14:22 TD Kejuan Jones 4 yd. run (DiCarlo kick) 27-13
Ok2 8:52 FG Trey DiCarlo 36 yds. 30-13

These things are unlikely. DiCarlo in 03 and Stevens in 08 were not very consistent from long range from what I remember. No way Works doesn't get caught from behind on a 63 yard run in 03. Maybe in 03. He got bigger and slower as time went by.

The 2008 Offense had an awful lot of weapons for any D to completely contain, let alone one that struggled against Kansas State. However, I can't say with confidence that Clayton or Perkins doesn't take one to the house to seal the deal.

Interesting. But I'd say the 2003 team wins it. Despite the championship head-scratchers, we were a lot better at finding ways to win in the early Stoops years.

2003 DiCarlo had one miss before the post season, it might have been a block, i can't remember. he was a Groza finalist. advantage 2003

i'm thinking the 2003 defense caused more turnovers. also the 2003 special teams was rocking. when was the last time we blocked a punt? if they weren't blocking them, AP was running them back

but imagine if Q or AD were around a year later or earlier, respectively

2008 defense was horrible compared to 2003

2003 would have beat 2008

2003 was Stoops most "talented" team.

Give the 2008 team, 2009 defense, and we go undefeated.
