I never watched Nip/Tuck. But, I loved watching Julian McMahon as a sometimes good, sometimes bad half-demon on Charmed. I didn't know that he was the only son of a former Australian prime minister, Sir William McMahon. He had some great lines on that show and could always deliver it with a barely concealed smirk. Just think what he could do if he went back to Australia and entered politics. Oh hell, why not move to Arizona and eventually run for governor? Then, they can have their star wars with the terminator in California.

True Blood has produced some epic and very believable evil characters. There are just too many to mention. Whoever does the casting on that show is truly genius.

But, my all-time favorite bad villain still has to be this guy.

Jack Webb's Joe Friday was memorable. "Adjust the Fax, ma'am".

Mississippi Sooner
9/24/2010, 10:18 AM
There were really two Joe Fridays. There was the radio/black and white tv version when it was all serious but basic crime drama stuff of the period.

Then there was the late 60s color version when he had Harry Morgan as his partner, and that one is pure camp comedy. He revived the character to take on the generation gap/drug war that was going on at the time, and he came off much funnier than the character Dan Akroyd played in the Dragnet movie years later.

Who can forget such classic lines as "marijuana is the match, heroin is the fuse, LSD is the bomb."

Plus, he gave us Blue Boy, for crap's sake.

Mississippi Sooner
9/24/2010, 10:21 AM
For those who might not remember Blue Boy:

Jack Webb got an award from the LAPD for that show, & he was the only civilian to receive same.

"dragnet" was very educational & always showed the police in a favorable way.

it was also very cheap. in their office, friday & his pard faced each other @ a table, no desk.

even in barney miller, each one had a desk.

i did like "adam 12" (another webb production) not so much for the show, but all the LA scenery. mostly appeared to be in SF valley.

texaspokieokie
9/24/2010, 10:24 AM
that wasn't comedy.

Mississippi Sooner
9/24/2010, 10:26 AM
Not intentional comedy, no. But, his descriptions of what certain drugs did to the body would become comical later when people learned more about it.

DON'T CHEAT, BY LOOKING UP THE ANSWER!!!

Q: Who was Joe Friday's asst./sidekick in the early version of Dragnet(name of the character, and name of the actor)?

texaspokieokie
9/24/2010, 10:30 AM
true, but he was dead serious.

i give him credit for having been married to Julie London.

remember him in a movie,"Pete Kelly's Blues". way back in the mid 50s.

I love Dragnet! Great character studies. And it was the first show to give a true behind-the-scenes look at crime investigation.

Okay, so it doesn't have hotties doing DNA testing (with their beautiful long hair messing up the samples) or massive explosions.
