Kickers are a dime a dozen. You can put your team in the Super Bowl (which it wins), then have a bad week 1 the next week and your *** is done. Gotta admire dudes like Carney that have been at it for nearly two decades. You have to be consistent to keep a kicking job.

Good. He's the only kicker I have. I hate having to trade kickers - it's a waste of a position...

Crabtree was one of my keepers. I was able to keep him in the 15th round. I'm still thinking that was too high.

I also had Jamaal Charles in the 16th round and Ricky Williams in the 14th. Those were my 3 keepers. Two longhorns and a Red Raiders. I feel gross.

On the plus side, I'm in first place in my league and should remain there after tonight's game. My strategy? See if you can detect it:

Round 1: Reggie Wayne
Round 2: Peyton Manning
Round 3: Joseph Addai
Round 4: Dallas Clark
Round Later: Austin Collie

I kind of stumbled into that happening...it wasn't the strategy I went into the draft with...but I felt better about it after remembering that a few years ago my friend won our auto-draft baseball league by putting the entire Yankee lineup and pitching staff at the top of his board. He ended up with all but one or two of the Yankees lineup and virtually all of the pitchers.

lol there's way too much risk in doing that IMO...but if everyone stays healthy and the team plays up to its potential...i guess it can be a pretty darn good strategy.

I don't like to do it with any other team. Not a fan of handcuffing RBs or anything.

But with the Colts...I dunno. Like I said, I didn't go into the draft with that strategy, but as it started to develop...in the 3rd round when Addai seemed like the best viable RB on the board and I needed one...I started to think "This could be a good thing."

Peyton is leading the league in passing TDs right now (6) and I've gotten double points on each of them (2 each to Wayne, Collie and Clark).

Here's hoping it holds up.

TopDawg
9/28/2010, 05:07 PM
Thank you, Austin Collie, for being extra awesome this week.

I'm 3-0 with 346.24 points. Second place has 310.49 and then it drops to 288.23.

Here's hoping it holds up...especially this week when I play the lowly Rhino's.

TopDawg
9/28/2010, 05:08 PM
Oh, and Addai has been a fail so far. But I knew he would be. He's one of those guys I typically avoid in the draft. But drafting him accidentally led to my strategy, so I'm glad I did this year, even if he's on the bench most weeks.

TopDawg
10/22/2010, 11:39 AM
The week after I wrote that, Addai had a good game and has been pretty solid since then (while on my bench behind Arian Foster and Peyton Hillis and/or Jamaal Charles).

This is the week I'm in trouble since all of my Colts (QB, RB, 2 WR and TE) have byes as does Foster. Everybody on my bench is there because of a bye, so I've had to pick up some new blood (I had Malcom Floyd, but he's out this week with an injury). And now with the injuries to Collie and Clark, I'm sweating the next few weeks too.

But things have worked out well for me so far. I've got the highest scoring team and I'm 5-1. I haven't mathematically qualified for the playoffs yet, but in a 10-team league, I've virtually wrapped it up. As long as my team gets healthy for the playoffs, I'll be happy. And if I miss out on the #1 seed, that's a good thing. In this league the #1 seed is 1-6 in the first round of the playoffs. The only win came when I was the #1 seed and I went on to win the league that year.

So, wait, maybe I do want the #1 seed.

In the league I'm in (Yahoo), I cannot cut Clark even though he's injured, because he's on my totally arbitrary "can't cut" list. At least he was last night. I'll have to check again later.
