View Full Version : Oklahoma politics amazes me

I was up in OK for about 3 weeks until last weekend.

I'm a Republican first and foremost, but I was literally amazed at the ignorance where I was at the sheer poverty of folks that honestly considered themselves to be Republicans.

I saw gas station after gas station with signs that said "We Accept Food Stamps" and yet folks vote against there own interests financially?

The problem is that the Dems are so overrun with leftists that the middle class see nowhere else to go. Let's hope the tea party separates Wall Street from the liberals and we finally get some middle class representation!

Whatever happened to the Blue Dogs?

BTW, PLEASE DON'T VOTE FOR FALLIN. I BEG YOU!

I worked at the OKC Zoo back in the late 90's and she had to wait in line and she raised holy hell and shouted "Do you not know who I am?"

She thinks she's entitled. Please don't do it. I don't know Askins but I'm sure she's not one of these NE libs. Mary Fallin is a joke.

I'm sure the churches will get her elected up there so it's a lost cause. You know who should be Governor? Coburn!

People in Oklahoma are nuts. They actually think that 2 year paid unemployment, food stamps for the bored, and taxing the h*ll out of the people who employ Oklahomans is a bad thing.

Maybe states with 12% unemployment can provide us with some pointers...

Socialists LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE your philosophy. "Make 'em think that they if they vote for us, we'll give them a little treat."

There should be some Internet rule where a similar story is crafted about the opposition. "I helped [candidate] fix her flat tire, and she gave me a counterfeit one-dollar bill as a mark of her appreciation. DON'T VOTE FOR HER!"

Politics of any kind amaze me.

Imagine sending an agent to represent you without any kind of contract. Do you that agent will always have your interest in mind? That's how a republic works. Probably the only option though as most of us have a day job and a family that eats up all of our time......that and you couldn't do a contract with only the 50k that voted for you.

Still though I am amazed at how many in the mob have never read the gubments annual financial statements or have a basic understanding of the budget process, deficits, debt, discretionary vs. mandatory spending.....and so on.

We're short of funding our gubment by about $1.4 trillion per year and the biggest debates are over programs that increase spending or lower taxes. We're so f--k'd!

Love this post.

Nate, I think you've highlighted a great point. When politicians "give" something back to a voting base, they shore up their voting base and a horrible spiral is created whereby a country's citizens become dependent upon the gubment and continue to vote themselves more and more.

So, I love living in Oklahoma. I loved living in Bermuda, until the current government came in and started voting more and more liberal....and now companies are fleeing Bermuda for countries like Switzerland every day.

Screw 12%, Nevada just hit their record high of 14.5% this month.

Anyone care to guess how much "stimulus" that Harry Reid's home state got, as compared to Oklahoma??

It's pork when it goes to someone else's state. When it's fighting to save a military base or something like that it's creating/preserving jobs.

And when it goes to Goldman Sachs, ACORN or some union thugs it's called Stimulus!

I wonder what you would call those $2 Million per jobs in LA, cuba?

That would kick so much arse. He could push the healthy doctor platform in a state that really needs it. He will yell at obese Okies to stop being fat. He would yell at pregnant teens to stop getting pregnant (and perhaps have a message for the men getting them pregnant too). He could push any policy he wanted via statewide town hall meetings... and they would be attended en masse.

But... Coburn's busy for the next six years. Maybe after a few years off from politics he'll run in 8 years?

According to Sharon Angle's campaign ads we didn't get any at all.

Unfortunately too many Oklahomans are susceptible to being led around like sheep on issues like English only, immigration, gun control, gay marriage, and anything pertaining to religion. The Republicans know this and you have to admit do a good job of using it to their advantage.

Lol - Oklahoma voters love the name "Rogers" :D

I think that really miffed his primary opponent, who had more credentials to be the Democratic nominee than the perennial Rogers that runs for everything. I think he ran for either governor or lt. gov. a few years ago. He ran for stuff as often as the late EZ Million, rest his Boomer Sooner soul.

And yes, I am declaring victory. Oklahoma voters love names like "Rogers," but I have to say that they love names like "Coburn" for Senate even more at this point.

For some, the little treat might be a social program that benefits them.
For others, it might be valuing their religious beliefs at the expense of others.

Which is why the democratic majority is collapsing, not only in congress but seemingly everywhere.

Oh, I am a benevolent dictator, no doubt, but considering the things they have chewed to bits (my OU slippers!!!!! noooooooo!!!) and the things they have eaten that were not intended for them (NP's chocolate desert just up and vanished while he was in the shower and the doggies were running around... riiiiiiiight), there are a few consequences for their untrustworthiness and ability to keep us awake all night.

1- My favorite game, "get chased by the lawn mower." I mow the back lawn, while the dogs run to the opposite side of the back yard repeatedly (because the lawn mower goes back and forth, hehe) to get away from the scary, noisy thing. When the game ends, the lawn is mowed and the dogs are too exhausted to misbehave inside.

2- "Crate time." Things that cannot be controlled outside cages can simply be placed inside cages!

3- Hair brushing. Yes, it tickles, and yes, you can get static shocks, but dang it, you are NOT going to shed in the house today!

4- Shock collar fence. A little buried wire to limit their freedom of movement to outside my flower beds.

:D

Mein hunds are NOT going to get my current pair of slippers, which look like oversized fluffy Packer shoes. When I severely sprained my ankle back in March, I wore one of them everywhere as a sub for the shoe that would no longer fit my puffy, injured foot.

I do miss the OU slippers, but at least I got another pair after mein hunds ate the others like a big luftwaffel breakfast. Dummkopfs :D
