View Full Version : A tendency that I have noticed about L. Jones

on passing plays... it seems he already has his mind made up who he is throwing to before the snap...

I might just be dumb... but that's just me.

Yes, he still zeroes in on his receivers some of the time, but he is doing a lot more looking off this year than last. He's definitely showing positive development in this area...

That's all that really matters.

You better run that by her before you get hurt Bro. :D ;)

When all the receivers are within two yards of each other....it just looks like he's zeroing in on one.

I know it sounds like a cop out but I guarantee that we have still seen very little of this offense. Stoops and KW have held back alot of the offense before and it has hurt us or like this season, nearly hurt us but there is still alot to be unveiled

One day he will say **** it and take over the offense as needs to be done... meaning he will go through his reads and all, but just make a damn play. I think hes got it in him, but I do agree he seems to have his mind made up pre-snap

That may be true. But why, OH WHY, would they hold back the defense...
First half was good, second half  Playing nickel def vs a running team??? WT...

STEP explained this quite well, the Def coaches didnt have enough confidence in all 3 LBers so we ran the nickel to have more speed on the field

Nickel personnel, but more like "4-4" run fits.

Air Force has a great Defense. The also have a great offense. The triple option is not easy to prepare for.

I'll take a W

Correct. That is why it used to work with us, though we had faster folks at running back. Their guys probably have higher ACT/SAT scores since at the military academies they are recruited using different standards than most institutions of higher learning.

As I said before, if they have held out then that was a wise move, since we're 3-0.

Obviously they didn't use the fake punt play, as going for it on 4th down was, in my opinion, a mistake.

Well i believe that laundry jones needs to have kw call short bubble screens and quick slants to get him comfortable and in a rhythm. He does not look comfortable when he has to come out to start a game and make throws down the feild. Hopefully our coaches will see that.

Almost all young QBs do this. About the only guys I remember who were able to avoid this tendency even from day 1 were Colt McCoy and Sam Bradford.

Ever notice whenever he throws into the endzone it's usually a bullet 12 feet off the ground?
I understand throwing it high so only your receiver can get it, but i don't think I've seen him throw a decent fade, ever. When he tries, it land 5+ yards outside of the back on the Endzone.

Come to think of it, Bradford didn't throw to many either. He was better (duh), but still didn't throw a lot.

ENA was the last QB who at OU who threw a good fade pass, IMO.
(For example, TD pass to Kelly at the end of "The Drive")

Landry very rarely looks to his right side. Our whole section was noticing it Saturday. He doesn't trust his protection and rushes his throws (to the left side).

I have watched him since HS & he seems to be playing the same as he has always has. I have notice some of what each of you are saying however, I am not sure he trusts himself. If we look at how he plays on the quick snap vs. mother-may-I, he is like night & day. Confidence, I tell ya, I think if KW will keep the fast snaps going Landry will rapidly gain confidence.

I, too thought I saw him locking on. But then I concentrated on watching just his eyes/head and was finally convinced that he really was clicking through some sort of progression. I don't think this is as much an issue as it might appear.

Not just the endzone throws, almost every time he throws a ball more than 10 yards down field it is on a line making any receiver adjustment almost impossible. There's a reason he had a 6 yard per attempted pass average v. the Zoomies.

Sorry Dean. I just can't help myself.

You would think that Josh H. would teach him all about that "putting a little air under your ball" secret since he(Josh) was one of the best ever at OU at doing that. Maybe Josh is just tired of other QBs breaking his records.

You're exactly correct. A lot of QBs are afraid of tossing it up there with a little air under it. Fear of the interception, I imagine. But it makes for such a catchable ball, see Heupel, White, and Bradford for reference! All about confidence with Landry.
