OU remains in 9th, but Nebraska gets a first place vote?

Well, they did beat Jake Locker. He's amazing, that one. 4-20. NICE.

Agreed, I think Nebraska is better than some people on this board give them credit for. Let me tell you, that Martinez guy almost reminds me of Eric Crouch.

Before the season, there was a lot of expressed doubt about why Nebraska was ranked as highly as they were. Despite the fact that NU was coming off of a 10 win season that ended with a 33-0 beatdown over Stoops' Arizona squad.

Nebraska continues their hot streak, winning 9 of their last 10 games (with the 1 loss being by 1 point on the last play of the game to Texas in the Big12 CCG).

In Nebraska's last two games against BCS conference teams, they've won by a combined score of 89-21. Would I vote Nebraska #1? Of course not. There's way too much that needs to be proven before that thought, but I'm guessing Steve Sarkisian did.

I think some are still selling Nebraksa short.

To be clear, and my opening post was certainly short on substance, I do think Nebraska has a good football team. I just don't think I'd be giving them a first place vote quite yet.

Next week won't be a test, but then they'll have four games in a row that will tell where they truly stand.

Only two teams have really impressed me...
Alabama and Oregon

Oregon...

Beat the tar out of New Mexico at home 72 - 0
*Scored 59 before half.

Went on the road to Tennessee and won 48 - 13
*Came back from being down 3-13 early in the 2nd Q.
*Outscored the Vols 35-0 in the 2nd half.

Beat the tar out of Portland State at home 69 - 0
*Their last score was with 3:10 left in the 3rd Q.

I see that but Tenn has a crappy D for what oregon does on offense... I never like the comparison game when they run completely different systems.

Oregon would most likely have slim success against the likes of Texas, Bama, OU, NEB, and tOSU because theyre great on D against that type of O just MHO

When they scheduled Tennessee they were probably considered a "good" non-conference game. Can't blame Oregon for the Vols going into the crapper. Seems like another one of those Frank Solich type situations, Fulmer wasn't doping "well enough" so lets get rid of him...be careful what you wish for.

I think Oregon is good and is just doing what we do to patsies when we are good.

Nebbish with an offense is another team from what we're used to.

As much as I've never drank the KoolAid, the OBC has a good team in Columbia this year and Lattimore is a tremendous back. Intriguing that they have Bama this year too.

If Iowa is good, the Arizona is pretty darn good.

Some nice variety with the BigXII, SEC and SUC sort of down.

True enough. NU will get its props soon enough. They are on the way, trust me. The run defense may not be as good without Suh and its top two lb's, who are both out with injury, but nobody will be throwing the ball much on NU. It's pass defense is stout, very stout. The offense appears to be WORLDS better than last year with a GAME BREAKER calling the shots.

i'd probably take Nebraska over us or Texas at the moment...

I can't figure out why we are ranked so highly. I don't think we are Top 10... yet. Looking at the other teams winning... I'd say somewhere in 13-17 range would be a little more accurate, all things considered (i.e. where our games have been played and the competition... please note Fresno State gave Utah State a pretty good 41-24 whuppin' Saturday.) Having said that, I do think AFA should also be Top 20. So... there you go.

But answering the Nebbish question... I think they deserve their ranking. They didn't just win... it was an old school mid-90's style tail kicking. Their defensive secondary is for real.... and so is Texas's.

Not sure what kind of competition Washington is, but playing on the road in a pretty hostile environment and getting a pretty impressive win has gotta count for something. Not sure if they are a #1 team, but they look way better than *.

Why? For leaving a confrence ruled by one team? Shame you can't see it. I guess you figure as long as you are joined at Texas' hip, you guys will be fine? This confrence could have been saved had it not been for the actions of primarily one team. Don't blame NU for doing what probably any other member in thier position would do themselves.

Why? For throwing a bitch fit because we think it's still 1992 and we're still pushing around Iowa State and Colorado in the conference meetings?

Fixed.

Do you guys actually think you're gonna have any more say in the Big Twen than you had here? You're Notre Dame's chubby friend; when they couldn't get the Irish to come home with them they looked at you and said "you'll do".

I do know NU will have equal revenue sharing in the Big 10, something this confrence lacks. Let me ask you a question? Would OU's brass have been pissed off if when the Big 12 was formed, it killed your rivarly with Texas by splitting you into seperate divisions? It was boneheaded the way the Big 12 was set up to begin with, killing one of the Nations best rivalries. Texas took aim at NU from the get go. Remember, the Big 12 saved Texas' rear-ends. They were in abyss mode, they sucked. Ever since, everything tilts to the souths (texas' behalf). When 6 teams threaten to leave the confrence, you better have some options. As for ND, your right, they are the #1 target for the Big 10. Had they come, NU would still be going to the Big 10, they just probably would have been taking Mizzou with them.

Tell us how that works out for you when you aren't making more than Illinois and Minnesota because you aren't allowed to form your own "Big Red TV" network.

You think Texas controls things? Wait until you get swung around by the tassels on your ears of corn by Michigan, Ohio State, and another seat of supreme arrogance, Penn State. Delaney always likes to crow how they always came to consensus on issues in the Big 10. Well that's because Michigan and Ohio State say jump, and Northwestern and Iowa say "how high?"

You do realize that NU only received a hair less than both Texas and OU, and significantly more than the bottom-halfers of the Big XII. Bring more eyeballs to the TV sets.. get more of that revenue. Sounds fair to me.

And now you don't have any other means of padding your pockets, and are right back into the conference championship game mess which you were supposedly so adamantly against in the BigXII. And which will be held in Indianapolis, which is no more a bastion of Husker football than is Dallas. Not to mention, that lack of Texas exposure either in Dallas or on the TV sets in Texas ain't gonna help your recruiting in TX, no matter how much you try to convince yourselves otherwise.

You have fun plucking all that elite Indiana talent out from under Purdue's and Indiana's noses.

I agree. It wouldn't surprise me if we beat Cincinnati by four touchdowns. It also wouldn't surprise me if we played like we did at Tech last year and get our asses kicked.

This game should answer some questions about this team.

Well now the teams have the option to start playing every year again. If they don't, then all the "We want our rivalry back" talk was just whine and BS.

Texas took aim at NU from the get go

Not really - it was the other 7 former Big 8 schools that took aim at Nebraska. They were tired of being pushed around by the Huskers for years and wanted the devil they didn't know over the devil they knew. Most of those decisions that pissed off the Huskers were 11-1 votes.
