EAST LANSING, Mich. -- A person with knowledge of the situation says Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio had a heart attack after his team's overtime victory against Notre Dame.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday because the school planned to make an announcement at a news conference later in the day.

The person said that Dantonio had a stent put in a blocked artery near his heart after the victory over Notre Dame on Saturday night. The Spartans used an audacious fake field to win 34-31.

Dantonio will be out indefinitely and offensive coordinator Don Treadwill will coach in his absence.

Not trying to make light of the situation, but it seems if a game was going to bring on a grabber...it would be that one.

I guess it is true that a game can really was a heart stopper.

Seriously though I get worked up at moments like that but I couldn't imagine being a coach on the field. I bet the feelings and everything are a thousand times more intense.

I'm actually surprised stuff like this doesn't happen more often really when you think about it.

Wow. They interviewed him on the field after the game and he didn't even look that worked up. I guess he was on the inside, though.

Prayers sent. Holy cow coaches have to be careful about fake FGs in overtime!! I always worried about M Mangino on the sidelines when it comes to this (not to mention Coach Stoops because of his Dad). Stoops stays in shape (in a great way! Heh) tho--I know he has mentioned the importance of being healthy as coaches at clinics. (would wager that he has had some uncomfortable convos w Mangino about this)

Good news, herd from Mich State via Twitter that Coach is slated to make full recovery. Hopefully its fast and he is back doing what he loves.

after living up here, i respect the spartans. not much of a fan base but i think they put out a good product in the major sports.

dantonio kicked off like 11 dudes fer a frat house altercation less than a yr. ago and now has his team 3-0.

hope he recovers and the spartans continue to roll on.
