Sounds like if convicted of aggravated stalking, it would be a 3rd degree felony charge, which in Florida would be up to 5 years in prison and a $5000.00 fine.

Any word on if he's been suspended by the team yet?

Urban announced that he'd be suspended for (checks with Dr., finds out he can't come back this weekend due to concussion) ONE GAME. Winnah!

Just joking, but the reality will be more of a joke.

Jay and Bob were all excited until they found that Mack had gotten there first AND that a formal motion making stalking and death threats to girl friends not only legal but mandatory in the state of Tejas had just been rushed through the legislature.

According to Gainesville police, Rainey sent the woman he dated on and off the past three years a text message that read, "Time to die," after leaving her home Monday night.

I have to say that I do not think he should be suspended. How many times growing up did your argue with a girlfriend/boyfriend where something is said that is very stupid? Everything up till now has been nothing but praise for Rainey.

If this were any other student, or ordinary person this would never have even gotten the attention of the police. I think it is a shame that he was even arrested.

Now, if it comes out that he has a history of abusing women.....then throw everything I just said out the window..

Ordinary people and most other students are not on full ride tuition paid benefits nor are they a public example of the University.......this guy is and therefore a suspension is not overkill......

Good Lowered, how many arrests is that under Urbie? Like 40? Gotta be close. When does it become "lack of institutional control"? If this were us, the NCAA would be using the Schooner to camp out on Owen Field. Not that FU is any longer a threat, they suuuuuuuuuuuuccckkkk, but still... fair is fair, galdarnit!!!!!

That's not really what "lack of institutional control" means. As far as I'm aware, stalking your girlfriend isn't an NCAA violation.

Rainey Makes A Dirty Thirty In Gainesville (http://www.mrsec.com/2010/09/rainey-makes-a-dirty-thirty-in-gainesville/)

Dave Hyde of The South Florida Sun Sentinel writes today that the University of Florida football team has now had 30 players arrested during the Urban Meyer era. And before I get the emails telling me that some of the arrests were for traffic violations and even a tossed sandwich, let me just say that it’s the “30 arrests” that draws eyes on an ESPN ticker

"Fifty-nine wins. Two national titles. Thirty players arrested.”

Look who's back on the team, and just in time for the big game against Georgia no less.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/ncaa/10/20/florida.rainey.ap/index.html?eref=sihp

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida receiver Chris Rainey, dismissed from the team earlier this season, could be back on the field next week against Georgia.

Coach Urban Meyer says Rainey is eligible to play, but adds that the junior's status won't be determined until next week.

Meyer partially reinstated Rainey last week, a month after he was arrested on an aggravated stalking charge. Rainey sent a threatening text message to a former girlfriend. Meyer dismissed him from the team the next day, saying Rainey violated the program's core value regarding violence against women.

Rainey agreed to a plea deal three weeks ago on a misdemeanor charge. If he stays out of trouble for six months, the charge will be dismissed.

If Florida loses to Gawga then Meyer may be lynched.

This story disappoints me, but considering the tight ship Urbie has running at UF, it does not surprise me at all.

I would say Urban is allowing all of these player arrests and off-field issues to continue winning, but he's not winning. Thank God for Stoops. I want to win, but I want to win the right way with players I can be proud of to call "Sooners."

I know that's what we all think of this decision and Urban's past overlooking of off-field issues... but Florida is not winning. Right now, not winning. Was Tebow the only reason Meyer did well initially at Gator country?

His recent OC and DC are now head coaches elsewhere - that has to factor in too.

This makes me proud about Stoops and the program's consistency over the years. We've had coaches hired away, lost key players to injury, the NFL, and graduation, and yet we keep on winning without bringing back criminals for encore performances!

10/21/2010, 03:22 PM
I still find irony that the one guy that Meyer did kick off the team for good is probably the one player they need this season.
