Don't they say teams improve the most from game one to game two?

Yes, because you don't know what you really need to work on until the bullets fly.

I am sleeping fine, it is this pit in my stomach about Saturday's game that I am trying to fix.

That is what they say and as you can tell from this message board, "they" is always right.

So OU and FSU have made major improvements this week.

That should give you a warm fuzzy.

This is the first time in my memory where we haven't opened up the season under Stoops without either a blowout win or a loss (fortunately, its been more the former), so it'll be interesting to see how this unique start pans out.

2006 against UAB. We did slightly better against Washington...

I'm hoping it was mostly mental jitters, fearful it was a bit more fundamental and slightly queasy at the nagging thought that we might not have the hosses at a couple of positions.

Let's play this dayum game.

Yes, week one changes everything. As pointed out above, we were better against UW in 2006 than we were against UAB. Point that needs to be taken from that example is that people forget about whether it was ugly or not as long as you win. Whereas TCU and BYU still stick out like a turd in a punchbowl.

It's seemed to me that we always manage to play to the level of our competition in our first game....or maybe they play up to ours....or, something.

99 : 49-0 Ark st
00 : 55-14 utep
01 : 41-27 unc - it wasn't that close. I believe that unc scored a couple late...
02: 37-0 - tulsey - it felt closer than this
03: 37-3 unt
04: 40-24 BGSU, pretty good team with a good qb- they scored 14 in the 4th Q
05: 10-17 tcu, ugh, we all know this one
06: 24-17 uab, sloppy play, PT back to qb, they ran the friggin veer, meh
07: 79-10 unt, nuff said
08: 57-2 chatt, this game wasn't even close
09: 13-14 byu, meh
10: 31-24 USU, still burned in memory

IMO, 7 of those games were won pretty handily with decent execution or being just better than the other team.

By the looks of it, we are in for 2006.Which, had some pleasant surprises and a couple of painful losses. I still think we beat * this year. If we progress this week and next.

I remember that U Dub game....that is the one where their running back ran right over Keenan Clayton (then a safety) for a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage

It was tied at the half, then we outscored them 24-7.

Let's look at the second game performance, as well...

99 : 49-0 Ind st
41-10 baylor
00 : 55-14 utep
45-7 ark st
01 : 41-27 unc - it wasn't that close. I believe that unc scored a couple late...
44-3 AF
02: 37-0 - tulsey - it felt closer than this
37-27 bama another 2nd half letdown coupled with JW going down
03: 37-3 unt
20-13 bama tough road game
04: 40-24 BGSU, pretty good team with a good qb- they scored 14 in the 4th Q
63-13 UH
05: 10-17 tcu, ugh, we all know this one
31-15 tulsa sloppy, and we were really green
06: 24-17 uab, sloppy play, PT back to qb, they ran the friggin veer, meh
37-21 Udub
07: 79-10 unt, nuff said
51-13 scUM LOVE. IT.
08: 57-2 chatt, this game wasn't even close
52-26 cincy closer than it should have been ala Mardy G
09: 13-14 byu, meh
64-0 Idaho St
10: 31-24 USU, still burned in memory

We'll see... However, it seems that when we didn't play well, we didn't exactly set the world on fire in week 2.
