View Full Version : So I went to Toby Keith's bar

Lame.

What kind of place doesn't include mashed potatoes with the chicken-fried steak? And the service was inattentive despite the place being less than busy. And we had to watch TK's videos on the big screen. And the beer selection was low-rent. And the upside-down longhorn head over the entrance reminded me of every knuckle-dragging fan of The University of I Hate Texas that I see flashing the upside-down hook'em at every game whether they're at the Cotton Bowl or not.

Thumbs-down.

I can agree with every but the upside down long horn. Yes flashing the hand signal at every game besides SAXET is inappropriate, but displaying your hatred for them year round is not wrong at all. They are our rival we hate them and he is a big OU fan, why can't he show his hatred of SAXET in his own restaurant?

I have been once and I was not a big fan of the place either.

I went there yesterday for the first time. Had the chicken fried steak, it was ok. Just about like every other chicken fried steak. The caesar salad was great and I thought the iced tea was good.

As for the atmosphere, there was espn on and I got to watch Navy vs Maryland. So that was good.

I do like Toby's music so I would have been ok watching his videos, but then again, I like country music.

Not so sure I would go back for the food though. It just seemed the same as every other theme-typed restaurant like that. Ok food, which was overpriced. $16.99 for a chicken fried steak! That seems crazy. I don't mind paying for good food, but it wasn't like I ordered the T-bone or Porterhouse.

i been there also, loved the upside down horn thing.. Kinda liked the atmoshpere.. food wasn't anything to write home about..

But really, how could anyone not like Toby Keith? The dude is a very successful musician.. He's an Oklahoman, and very proud of the fact that he is.. Hell I admit to liking a lot of his music. I'm not even a big country fan. I don't understand the hate..

He makes a ton of money, and he still lives, and spends his money in Oklahoma. He's an amazing Sooner fan.. He is as die hard as anyone on this board. And as a plus for me, he's a big Steeler fan too.. haha suck it bitches!!

We have had this discussion on this board several times...still amazes me the hatred for TK...I mean, it's easy to hate hate a guy that does stuff like this

http://www.allyshouse.net/

Toby Keith will host Charity Golf Tournament in Norman, OK May 21-22.
Proceeds for “The Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic” will go to families with severely ill children.

Toby Keith performs for military families May 1 at a hangar at Ramstein Air Field in Germany on his two-week United Service Organization tour. Nearly 5,000 service members and their families turned out for the show.

The bottom line is the guy is very chartible and he keeps a ton of money in Oklahoma

i'm not crazy about TK, but i see no reason to bad-mouth him.

he's ALL OU.

$16.99 is high for a chicken-fry.

He films movies in New Mexico that are supposed to take place in Oklahoma, taking tax and other dollars away from our state. At least he has a fried bologna sandwich on the menu.

It's not even his bar. A restauranteur just pays him an assload of cash to use his name/likeness. So there's that.

And yes, the service isn't great and the food is overpriced.

The whole stage setup and live music deal is right up my alley, however.

What streets border his house NE of Norman, I tried to find it the other day but missed it. Looks like Nverland or Graceland.

We went to one of his bars in Vegas - waitresses wore football jerseys on gameday, including Sooner gear. And, there was OU gear on the walls too, way out in Nevada. Kind of neat that you can get a little bit of Sooner outta state, and not just in the Dallas area :D

Toby Keith probably doesn't care what you think of his Bar & Grill. He's loaded and can pretty much as he pleases. Dean is probably the only one here on the board with more money than Toby.

Anyone who can write a song as loving as "Wayman's Song" is alright in my book. Anyone who calls them self a Sooner and hates on a fellow Sooner for doing what he loves is messed up in the head.

Good food. Over priced but good, especially the different kinds of dip.

Yeah I asked the waitress if they could play some other music.:D

You guys are just jealous because you didn't have access to the VIP room upstairs.

Yeah but some folks think he's a big dumb hick because he supports our troops and their cause.

F 'em.

I don't listen to his music but it's not terrible. Yeah some of it is silly pop country stuff but the guy can sing better than you.

I can't stand country music.....but I really think highly of Toby Keith.....as was said above he is ALL SOONER......

Most folks that bad mouth him (not all) are just jealous he has made a ton of money doing something he loves to do...like it or not he keeps rolling in the $$.

Again, that being said I cant stand country music of any kind.....well maybe a little Hank Sr. every now and then :D

I have been there 3 times and the food was good every time. Maybe I just ordered the right stuff. Atmosphere was fine, service was fine. Haven't tried the chicken fried steak but I had chicken fried chicken....and I'll be damned if it didn't come with mashed potatoes. Every school has their famous fans. Our are people like James Garner, Toby Keith, and Jim Ross. Texas has Mathew McConohay (serious don't care how its spelled), Nebraska has Larry the Cable Guy, SUC has Will Ferrell. Ours are pretty decent compared to some other schools. Not everybody can be like Kentucky bball and have Ashley Judd wearing tight clothes in the stands.

Chump change for me and Bruce.

Me? Never been there. Momma has and she likes it OK, but she pretty much eats salads and sammiches.

I did see Toby at the Ford Center several years back when his Bar & Grill tour came out. Sat in the Lucky Star Casino suite - right next to Switzer, Stoops, Schmitty, Mike Stoops, Mrs. Stoops, and several other OU coaches. It was a hell of a show, and I couldn't tell you a single country station in Oklahoma - well I've heard of "the twister" but I couldn't tell you what channel it is.

Toby is a very successful Okie and Sooner who we should all be proud of. The haters are frustrated little girly men who are jealous of Toby's guns.

I love Toby and his OU-Oklahoma pride. I can't stand his music, but give me a break: My favorite bands are prog rock/prog metal bands along with a lot of old school metal like Maiden, Priest, Dio, and Sabbath.

Never ate his food, but I imagine it's about like every other celeb restaurant, good but generic. If I was gonna chow on some musician's eatery, I'd go to Florida and try Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden's Rock 'n Roll Ribs. Then I'd bitch that it too is good but generic.

Wifey and I had a sit down with a couple for whom we were playing their wedding reception. The young man was a U.S. Army lieutenant, who had already completed one tour to Iraq. They provided a list of suggested music, which included some country, when he said, "Don't play anything by Toby Keith." The explanation was that whenever there is a service for a fallen soldier, they will say, "It is Toby Keith time" referencing the song by TK that is played during one. He did not want to be reminded of this on his wedding day. Now, given the proximity of where we travel to do a job to a large Army base, we ask our clients if any servicemen or women will be in attendance and if so, suggest TK not be part of the playlist.

On the topic, if he is going to lease his name, his manager should monitor that the service or product is of acceptable quality, because any bad press tarnishes the whole brand name.
