LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Embattled Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins has retired, a year before he planned to step down.

Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little and Perkins made the announcement Tuesday.

Perkins is 65. He had said in June he would retire in 2011.

Since Perkins arrived from UConn, the Jayhawks have won the NCAA basketball championship and the football team won the Orange Bowl.

But there have also been scandals and embarrassments, including a ticket scam allegedly conducted by staff members that cost the school as much as $3 million.

Perkins has not been implicated in any wrongdoing in the ticket scandal. Sean Lester was named interim athletic director.

Yeah, it's tough for coaches to stay if they're not hired by the guy in charge, unless they're good, solid coaches with the records to show for it.

Leach got himself a VPN line or whatever on his boat so he do a sweet assed show on Sirius 122 at 11am central. It's call CFB Playbook with Jack Arute. Leach being the pirate he is, he doesn't work on Fridays. Eddie George subs for him.

Yes, I was listening to this yesterday at lunch and Leach was absolutely awesome. 20 min of that show is better than 1 year of the Commerical Animal.
