If Stoops left after this year would you want Chris Petersen as a coach for OU? Just for fun, why or why not?

Answer: Yes I'd be happy for him to be the coach of my fav team.

Reason: He's an excellent coach that does a lot with a little. He has consistent, well-prepared and disciplined teams.

He's 49-4 in his 5 seasons with Boise
He's 2-0 in BCS bowl appearances (and was never even close to being blown out in his bowl losses) 2-2 in bowls overall
He doesn't have "down years".

And he's done it without anywhere close to a top 10 recruiting class.

Yeah I'd say he'd be worth a looksee.....

Previous Boise coaches to move onto greener pastures...

Houston Nutt
Dan Hawkins
Dirk Koetter

.... nope.

I think Stoops has changed over the years. He used to be a coach like Peterson.....taking risks and getting his guys to play with a chip on his shoulder.

I don't really know how to describe it because I'm not saying he's a bad coach. He get's his recruits. He frequently gets the team to the BCS status. But when was the last time anyone called him Big Game Bob?

One of the last things he has held on to was his near invincibility at home, and that was seriously tarnished this weekend.

Would I want Peterson when Bob leaves? Sure, but would he lose his edge as well after a few years?

If everyone thinks that Bull-**** Scheduling University has such a great coach, maybe they should look at how they only have 3 games or so per year that are "true tests".

I honestly think they will even struggle in the Mountain West with the likes of Colorado State, Wyoming, and AirForce on a regular schedule, and that isn't even tough compared to the Big12 schedule that is faced every year here.

Josh is the coach in waiting. Anyone else would be a stepo down IMHO.

Josh Heupel
Nate Hybl
Jason White

.... nope.

Petersen ain't the same guy... that said, I'm not sure if it's a good fit or not. Stoops has always recruited OU territory (Texas :D) well. Not every coach with hype and hooplah can do that (Schnellenboozer).

If Stoops happens to leave soon, I would hope and pray for Gary Patterson as HC, Josh Heuple as OC, and the dude at TCU as DC. My god, that's golden.

absolutely... i hate boise as much as anybody else on this board, but i think this petersen dude is an absolute stud. i don't think it's fair to hold the failures of hawkins and koetter against him, petersen has taken the boise program to new heights

The track records of the previous Boise State coaches who left for bigger schools is the only thing that worries me. Petersen does extremely well, up there, though. Better than his predecessors.

i can understand that, but it was a little different for him...hawkins left the program a little on a downhill slide when he bolted for colorado...not that it matters, but BSU's average recruit was a 2 star before Peterson and now a 3 star caliber athlete...

9/7/2010, 10:24 PM
Sorry but the idea of Petersen walking our sidelines kinda makes me want to vomit a little. I'd much rather see Heupel get his shot.

I want to see what he could do with the kind of athletes that we get.

Hiring Heupel would be the same as when CU hired Yippy Skippy back in the day ----a mistake.

BoulderSooner79
9/7/2010, 10:53 PM
I can't see it happening. Bob will be here a while and Peterson will most likely be lured away before then by a program in need.
