View Full Version : Comparisons Please

In 2006 the first game was against UAB and the score was 24-17, the same margin of victory we had against USU. Can someone please compare the UAB team with the USU team and the 2006 Sooners with the 2010 Sooners. I not very good at figuring all this out.

If I recall correctly, UAB had been historically better going into the 2006 opener than USU. Utah State had been bad for so long, and we beat them so soundly in 2007, that it makes the close game seem worse than it was.

For sure USU's Borel was much better than any athlete UAB had put out there.

So using that logic from 2006, does this mean the refs will hose us in Cincy?

USU appeared to be much better than UAB. Borel's an outstanding QB and his surrounding cast are hellacious fighters. I didn't see any acrobatic catches out of UAB... I really think PT's first game back and an average game from AD, combined with a similar defensive struggle for OU made for 24-17.

Make no mistake, we have some major work to do, but a cleaner game would have made all the difference against USU. There were also two bad calls (the first LJ INT was NOT an INT, it bounced off the ground under the USU DB) and the no-call helmet-to-helmet on DeJuan Miller would have both made for easy opportunities at points. NTM, we had some foolish penalties that came at horrid times (like Wort's personal foul after we sacked the QB on 3rd and long keeping USU's eventual scoring drive alive).

In short, I don't think we were all that much better game one than UAB. We were much better than we showed against USU. Albeit, we still have a lot more than just cleaning up OUr game to do.

Uab turned out to not be as good as we thought they would be because they played ou close.. Ended up winning 2 or 3 games that year I think

PT had similar stats to lj that day.. A couple of tds and a couple of picks.. AD had an ok game by his standards

I'm not sure if the even sacked
Hunt that day or not..he scrambled around enough

I think Utah state won't end up that good either but that's just me

I will say for a guy who got moved around.. Pt had a lot more pocket presence than lj..He didn't have some of the things Landry has

Looks like we were better in pass coverage. Capitalizing on opps were not so good this year.

That's what I was getting at. I don't think we can judge the season by the first game.

I saw people judging the season by the 1st quarter in the game thread.
