Correct. When Alabama is up 34-3 at halftime of the title game and Kellen Moore is 10-27 with 2 INT, the media will give up on their cinderella fantasy college football champion BS. Does this mean I have to root for OSU and Bama the rest of the year? Ugh. Great game, and they're a solid team but...

Here is why I hate Boise:

1. I'm sick of them using the Fiesta Bowl as their poster child for relevance. If they played in the Big XII they would be fighting OSU and TT for 4th place.

2. I also am irritated by the fact that they just barely beat the #10 team in the land and the CF world acts as if they knocked off #1. VT's going to lose to Miami and atleast 3 more teams and by the end of the season - I hope the win loses it's luster.

3. How do you think they would fare in the Big XII or SEC? I'd love to see how they'd rank after playing UGA, LSU, FLA, ALA, in league.

4. I think logic would dictate playing inferior teams week in week out would leave them healthier and less fatigued at the end of their season.

5. We're going to have to hear about them until they lose. I respect them- send them to a BCS game, but only because I want to see them get their asses kicked by a legit top 3 team.

Yes it's lame, and yes it's an excuse, but yes they didn't really want to be there. Let down game. Very tough to gear up for a game when you were this close to playing for the national title. Similar to us vs. Boise...winning an emotional Big 12 title game against Nebraska, any bowl win was just icing on the cake. No one is saying they shouldn't have gotten jacked up to play in the bowl game and win it, but it's understandable why they just didn't care as much as Utah did.

I am all for equal treatment, but undefeated Boise schedule is still <<< than 1-loss Big 10/SEC/Big 12 schedule. So I am positive the computers would be against Boise. Coaches would get slightly sour on them, and the meaningless AP voters would love them. Who knows what the Harris poll people would think. That poll is obscure anyway.

I'm just saying the BCS system will not work for BSU due to their conference as has been the case in the past. That's not true and that's my point. BSU has dominated the WAC the last 5 years and have not played for a title. Had it been OU in the WAC, the same thing would be true - no title game. The WAC has been a boat anchor for BSU and still is; that's why they are moving to the MWC. (Of course the MWC has never gotten in either and Utah has produced 2 teams that look darn good in retrospect). Everyone is so worried that BSU might get in, and yet it remains true that they have to go undefeated *and* all the power conference champions have to suffer losses. I agree their odds are better this year than ever before because all the big teams have more flaws than usual. But I also think they have gradual played better ball each year to earn a lot of that respect; thus I have no problem if it happens.

BTW, you think OU would agree to a home and home series with BSU? Personally, I doubt it.

And yeah, if Boise makes it this year over one-loss legit teams, then OU could make it 4 out or 5 in the WAC with the same schedule plus texas (if we beat texas). That's not going out on a limb. And I am just saying that that whole scenario is sad. If Boise even made it to the PAC 10 and had to go through that schedule, I wouldn't argue against them with one loss. But its about their current schedule. You can say, "you can only play who is on your schedule". Yeah, true. Then again, that's what your AD and President is for. Tough sh**. You want to be big time? They probably won't this year either - same reason. If OU played in a weak conference, they wouldn't have played for any titles either (and rightfully so). If OU played in a weak conference but was otherwise the same team, Texas (and other power teams) would not agree to play them regularly. If the planets align perfectly for BSU because no 2 power teams dominate this year, it won't be a crime against nature. I say the odds are still against them.

Exactly. There is so much angst that the flawed BCS might allow an undeserving team like BSU (or Utah or TCU) to get into the title game. Yet that system has a perfect record of keeping them all out. So even though the system has plenty of warts, it clearly does take SOS into consideration.

It seems I remember reading somewhere that OU and Boise did try schedule a series. OU wanted it to be 2 in Norman for 1 in Boise if I remember right but because it wasn't equal Boise said 'no thanks'. I have no problem with lower tier conference teams getting in as long as they do what they can to shore up their non-conference schedule to make up the difference as best they can. And I don't think they're in a position to be picky.

I agree completely. I liked the BCS so much more when SOS was an added component. SOS still a factor in the computers formula but it of course counted for more when there was a separate BCS component for it. It encouraged better football games.

If it's not a big of enough factor OU should schedule all cupcakes. Then they would only have to show up against * and their bowl game. It's a lot easier to get your team up for 2 games compared to 4 or 5 games.

They just went into hostile territory against a top ten team, traded leads 4 times in the second half, and won from behind on a game winning drive. The fact they they are in the discussion is by itself amazing. It still stings how they beat us a while back- but these guys just seem to never give up. It is a testament to their coaching, because none of their players would have been starting a so-called major D1 programs. I am slowly becoming a fan of these guys. Until their first loss happens, they deserve to be in the mix of the discussion.

What I don't get is that everyone seems to think BSU has an easy path to a title game when the truth is that the system has locked out such a team 100% of the time so far. If the rule said only teams from current automatic qualifier conference were allowed in, I would be fine with it. But that's not the system today. But even if that were the system, it wouldn't be fool proof and you only have to look back to last season. Look how close Cincy got to the title game - what if Colt holds the ball 500 milliseconds longer? Cincy finished #3 and would have been drilled by either BSU or TCU.

Great game. My biggest beef with the game came with Va Tech's first scoring drive, when the receiver caught the ball and was stopped around the one. If it really is a point of emphasis to protect against leading with the helmet/spearing, I thought the tackle was a textbook case of dangerous form. The Boise State kid had his head lowered, looked like a classic spear imo.

But SOS is in there in reflected in the pollster - not written down explicitly. And many voters obviously feel that play a bunch of WAC teams isn't enough to earn a #1 or #2 rating.

As to why SOS is not weighted explicitly, unfortunately, it's OUr fault. Our '03 team had a lock on BCS #1 regardless of the CCG outcome. Then we laid an egg against KSU and they changed the rules so that couldn't happen again.
