Christian Ponder (Heisman contender) threw 4 TDs today and it got me to thinking that the defense will face some pretty good QBs this year. Who do you think will be the best QB OUr defense will face this year?

Oh, and just for kicks, how many TDs will Ponder throw vs OUr defense next week?

I am curious to see Griffin. What's that kids name for A&M?
Glabbert? looked better than I expected.

We're going to be facing a good number of decent or better QBs this season. Borel tonight, Ponder next week, Collaros at Cincinnati, Gilbert, Arnaud, Gabbert, Johnson, Griffin, Potts/Sheffield, and Weeden.

Weeden?

Given the offense that he will be in, I'm going to assume that he's going to put up decent numbers. I don't think he's one of the best QBs we will face, though, but he probably won't be horrible, either.

Ha no, Ponder will be a challenge but he won't be as slippery and fast as Borel.

I'm hoping it was Borel... really, really, really hoping.

I watched most of their game. I don't know who will be the best OU plays against, but this guy looks good, real good.

Okay, I waited to post mine. My list is the same as above and add Gilbert.

Gilbert didn't look impressive mainly because of their run game though.

I think we have... well, Johnson and Griffin are elusive QBs too. That was really the problem the containment would break Borel would scramble and the coverage would be broken. That's why receivers were open. I know for a fact FSU won't play like that. Ponder won't run around like that. Even with that said the corners need to tighten up their technique because Ponder will do a lot of play action.

Agreed here. Went to the Rice game, and Gilbert did not impress (although, even from the top section, he still looked pretty big). He missed on several passes, granted they were the tough 15-20+ out routes. And once that run game wore down the Owls, not much need to throw. Griffin may be the wild card in this bunch.

Call them overrated or not, but hopefully his name is Pryor or McElroy.

probably ponder. people keep talking about how he isn't as fast as borel, which is true, but he's a much better passer.

Pure QB dual threat skills that historically cause OU defenses problems? I would go with Griffin.

Best QB, supporting cast combo that can actually beat us: toss up between Gilbert and Ponder.

Ponder is the most NFL-ready of the bunch, but he may not be the one who gives us the most trouble. Guys like Griffin, Borel, Johnson, Arnaud, and Collaros are far more likely to give us problems due to their ability to extend plays. In fact, they will give most teams who play them trouble.

Ponder's RBs are average, his WRs CAN be good. The real match-up to watch this week is OUr DL vs. their OL. Can Beal, Alexander & Co. get consistent pressure on them?

I've got a bad feeling about Griffin. Fortunately no other part of that team makes me worry. :D

Okay, no one picked Blaine Gabbert and he is undefeated. Is he the best? Where does he fall into the list? 2nd, maybe?

gaylordfan1
10/20/2010, 09:39 PM
He will be as good as our defense allows him to be. If we play too soft he has the ability to light us up! But I feel this will be a great game from our back 4.

Funny to look back at this thread. Tannehill, Griffin and Weeden will be the best we've faced.
