No casualties reported so far. This rig wasn't producing.

Looks like 13 rescued and 1 injured so far....

Rig was 1.02 miles off the coast of Vermillion Bay, LA. West of NOLA.?

I think it was 80 miles off the coast. Vermillion Bay is in Central LA.

Yeah, Vermillion Bay is about 80 miles or so west of NOLA.

I'm hoping that since this well wasn't producing, we won't have that spill mess to deal with all over again.

Edit: Spoke too soon. I shoulda waited until a guy who's actually living down there spoke up.

From CNN...

10:15 a fire broke out on the platform....no injuries have been reported. No hydrocarbon spill has been reported. No well blowout. No drilling was going on. It appears at this time everything is contained.

CNN reporting it's 80 miles off the coast and their map said 1.02 or 102 miles on screen....lol

So now it's a fire on a platform and not a rig explosion. I love how the media puts out the most provocative headline even if it doesn't exactly describe the situation.

To be sure, there's no small fires on an offshore oil platform and they did evacuate the platform, but there's a hell of a lot of difference between a fire on a platform and an explosion or well blowout.

Wow. The AP's actual headline said "Oil Rig Explodes in the Gulf."

It's hard to take anything seriously anymore until it's confirmed about a dozen times or more.

Yep. The guy from the Company is saying 1sr reports are saying they had a fire...no explosion.

Like I've said for awhile....the media is trying to scare everyone into a hightned state of awareness to up their ratings.

We seem to have become a near papparazzi type of society that runs towards the fire so tomorrow we can sit around the coffee pot at work and tell everyone who we were 1st on scene in the internet blogs....lol

You'd get more people to click on your thread if you left it the other way:)

Yeah, but I'm all about integrity.

I get hits the old fashioned way, by needlessly bumping my own thread.

Read there was a sheen on the water, but isn't that like normal for the LA coast? All wells on the rig are shut in supposedly.
