Oh Nike, do you really think shadows and a steam machine will make any uniforms look cool

Will post other pics shortly if I can find them.

EDIT: Alabama, Boise State, Miami, Ohio State, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, TCU,
Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Florida are getting victimized this year.

Here is how the uniforms were officially described in the release:

• Miami: Tonal Fir palm-frond print emblematic of South Florida incorporated into the jersey numbers, pant and footwear.

• Alabama: Houndstooth check pattern incorporated into the uniform in tribute to legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant.

• Boise State: Reflective, Game Royal Bronco head on the uniform echoes the famed blue turf of Bronco stadium.

• Florida: Alligator-skin motif used in the jersey numbers, pant, gloves and footwear inspired by menacing Gator mascot.

• Ohio State: Stylized script numbers, a replica U.S. flag on the jersey sleeve and the camouflage-print base layer honor the WWII-bound Buckeyes, National Champions of 1942.

• Oregon State: Retro design revives a look worn by the victorious 1967 "Giant Killers."

• Pittsburgh: Notched Team Gold jersey numbers and stencil stripe on the helmet evoke steel I-beams in reference to Pittsburgh's steel industry.

• TCU: Icy lizard-skin pattern used throughout the uniform inspired by the scaly body armor of TCU's horned frog mascot and a memorable quote from celebrated coach Leo "Dutch" Meyer.

• Virginia Tech: All-black uniform references the cadet gray-and-black regalia worn by Virginia Tech's original football team and honors the school's current Corps of Cadets.

• West Virginia: A headlamp-like line running front-to-back on the helmet and smudged Black pattern on the uniform pay respect to the region's coal mining industry.

Headlamp-like? lulz. Boise's new helmet:

Alabama actually allowed Nike to tinker with their uniform... but only slightly:

All they had to do was say "For Bear Bryant!" probably :P

I heard that's why 2 of them are leaving the Big 12.

I realize it's no big secret, but it's no coincidence that the schools with the deepest traditions whose uniforms change the least. It's comforting, to me, that the unis of OU, Bama, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Penn State, * and so on are familiar and reliable every year. Let the wannabes keep updating their look.

And yeah, I'm looking at YOU up there in Stoolwater.

There was one cool thing about the TCU slogan this year. Their coach Dutch Meyer said in 1939 "Fight em till hell freezes over, then fight em on the ice."

"When Missouri and Texas Tech play in Lubbock on Nov. 6, they'll wear camouflage-trimmed jerseys to support the Wounded Warrior Project."

I agree with this. tOSU changing their unis is a bad idea. I'd throw USC in that group as well.

Nothing makes a weird uniform design look better like honoring sevicemen and women :D

Also, I didn't totally hate the OU unis last year. These gloves were very cool:

Ja, but don't put it past some teams to bring the look back if they really like it (like TCU did for their bowl game)

Details on the uniforms:
- TCU vs. Oregon State (Sept. 4): Horned Frogs open with Lizard-skin design uniforms.
- Virginia Tech vs. Boise State (Sept. 6): Hokies' black colors salute Corps of Cadets; Broncos' Silver and Blue echoes Broncos' blue turf.
- Florida vs. Georgia (Oct. 30): Gator-skin design uniforms.
- Alabama vs. Mississippi State (Nov. 13): Numbers with hounds-tooth check salute Paul "Bear" Bryant.
- Miami vs. Virginia Tech (Nov. 20): Hurricanes don 1970s throwbacks.
- West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh (Nov. 26): New duds for Backyard Brawl.
- Ohio State vs. Michigan (Nov. 27): Red helmets for Buckeyes.
- Oregon State vs. Oregon (Dec. 4): Beavers' throwbacks salute '67 team that beat Southern California, Purdue and Oregon.

I would be upset if I was part of some of these school's fanbases. It is like Nike is taking a dump on school tradition and trying to change something the fans know and love... it's not as bad as those one-sleeve-this-color-one-sleeve-that-color that they did with VT and Florida a few years back...

http://i.a.cnn.net/si/2005/writers/bj_schecter/11/23/weekend.preview/t1_leak_getty.jpg

Ewww... anyway, not as bad as that, but still just weird.

Again, loved the OU gloves and would love it if they made a return. But, not digging the new unis and glad OU isn't a part of that crap again.

...and if you love Boise's helmet, check the entire uniform. They put the giant broncho face on the sleeves too.

I thought I remembered hearing that somewhere. I think logistically, they are great. They are light weight, tight fitting, and don't hold as much water. I am all for it, as long as we keep the normal design.

In a world where "retro" jerseys have raped and pillaged the NFL. Penn's Uni's are refreshing to me.

I never want to see OUr uniforms incorporate, reflect, be emblamatic of, be inspired by, script, notched, revive, or evoke anything.

They can inspire and pay respect to if it does not mean changing and/or adding something to them.

I disagree. That's one of my favorites.

There are few non-OU games I've enjoyed watching as much as Penn State's win over Miami in 86. And I think part of that enjoyment was the old school victory of Penn State and tradition over new school thuggery. Penn State should never change that uniform.

Re: Penn State....Years ago when I lived in Altus the high school (same colors as Penn State) uni's had white helmets with two blue stripes, and white pants with two blue stripes, and I thought they were the most beautiful uni's I had ever seen. I think a look at Penn State in that scheme would be worthwhile.

All this uniform talk brings to mind the comments of that great OU All-American QB (who went on to coach some little school down in Austin).

Darrell Royal was asked in the '60's if Texas was going to put stripes on their uni's - while responding in the negative, he added "these are work clothes."

Keep 'em classic, I say.
Oregon is a Nike-induced abomination.

Live on, University.

I think if they were to change it that it shouldn't be something outlandish.
Something like a navy helmet with the white Nittany Lion logo and the Penn State text like they have in the end zones above the numbers like most teams have anymore. That should be about the extent of it, I do like the alternating jersey/pants that some schools do, I am not much of a fan of the all white uniforms.

Penn State's unis are downright generic.

But they're better than the goofy crap now seen on an all-too-often basis. Teams w/ losing records ought to be made to wear them as an emblem of shame.

ESPN.com's Uni Watch did a fun feature with more photos and analysis of the pro combat unis... which are neither for combat, nor for pros :P

Link (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=lukas/100901_college_football_update)

While we are having our fun mocking the other schools, I really think these unis are for the kids and students more than the old alumni. Kids like new and different, that's why Oregon players created such horrendously-looking uniforms, cuz they wanted to be different I guess.

Some of the t-shirt designs they have to go with this campaign are sharp (you can view them at the Nike site), unlike the crap they spewed out for us last year. You can get those shirts for less than $5 bucks at Marshalls now.
