View Full Version : I'm Proud of My Cousin

So, my cousin made the decision late last year to leave OSU in her final year and join the Air Force. I thought she should have finished school first, but who listens to me? In any case, she graduates from boot camp this upcoming week and I'm very very proud of her. The few times we've been able to communicate with her, she's told us she's doing very well. The Air Force gave her extra responsibilities while in boot camp but she was also made some sort of leader within her little group.

She was something of a track star in HS and runs constantly so she's the 2nd fastest runner there. She even outran her recruiter before she left for Basic. :D

After boot camp, she'll be attending training to become an MP (though the Air Force calls it something else). She's such a tiny girl that it's hard to imagine her being a military cop, but she's excited.

Anyway, just wanted to brag a bit. I think it would have been better for her to finish her last year at OSU before enlisting, but I'm proud nonetheless.

air force security personell are called SPs (security police)

they also have a heavy weapons group called security specialists and special forces called combat controllers, who main job is to locate and extract downed flight crews.

all in all they do good work, but have a severe lack of discipline.

Good for her. I'm a 16 year Air Force vet (Army now), but she's in a elite group. She can easily finish her degree. You damn right to be proud of her..

air force security personell are called SPs (security police). They have two flavors: "law enforcement" which are basically like small town cops who regulate traffic and respond to calls, and "security forces," who guard nukes, nuke assets and perform airbase security inside the wire.

they also have pararescuemen, who are not cops, whose main job is to ride in helicopters to locate and perform the search and rescue (SAR) mission.

all in all, USAF cops do good work, and aren't wound as tight as their Army MP counterparts.

fixed it.;)

I kind of agree that she probably should have finished her degree first, but it's a good move nonetheless. And who am I to say? I went to OCU for two years and then joined the Navy.

there is good news and bad news about this story. the good news is she is 1 year from getting her degree and she is friggin security forces so she will spend 80% of her new life on base....honestly, if she busts her ***, she could have her masters by the time she finishes her enlistment. the bad news is, i hope she didnt join security forces expecting to get a job as a civilian law enforcement type....itll never happen.

good for her though.
