I cannot express the amount of hatred I have for 11am OU-texas games. I am hungover, with little sleep, high heat, humidity, and drenched in sweat while still yelling until my vocal cords explode, and having to rip them out of a whorn fan in order to keep yelling while my head is splitting only to be consoled by every good play we make. Those extra hours of sleep and hydration are key to me staying rabid....and ripping out more whorn vocal chords. But I digress... :D

They are. Not too early, but you you also don't have to wait all day. I only like night games if it's really hot, or it's a really big game at home.

David, there's no need to engage in the wanton destruction of brain cells. Everyone is NOT doing it. The crappy feeling of a hangover is MORE than testified to on this very thread, destroying the very thing we all profess to love: The joy of OU football. You seem like a smart guy....stay smart.

Yay, that 11:00 a.m. crap kicked my bee-hind last year, and OU/texsucs will never be a night game--a) bad neighborhood, everyone's wheels would be gone and more importantly, b) a stadium full of all of us hillbillies after a full day's drinking would be an 80,000 person brawl before the end of the first quarter. The stands would be littered with bodies. Ain't happening, and I wish they would make it a permanent 2:30 start.

And why is it the first weekend this year, anybody know? Last year, it was the 3rd, now the 1st, it's 'posed to be the 2nd weekend, why do they keep screwing with it?

The only good thing about early games is that I don't have to wait all day to watch the game. The anticipation gets to me!

I'm kinda smart.... well, maybe not.... but I don't drink until the kickoff and don't stop until I'm out of beer. But, I do tend to stick with the measly 3.2 stuff for OU football.

Yeah, drink after the game, not before.

This is why I watch the games at the house. I have a toilet readily available and plenty of beer in the fridge! Plus rewind and pause if needed. Dang, it is getting close fella's!

Rookies...

2 Fletcher's Corny Dogs + at least 4 beers in wax cups + State Fair of Texas = MEGA-WIN.

Take your traveler flask of Makers Mark into the game.

Mambo Taxis after the game.

All sorts of delicious win here.

Dunno. It seemed that FOR YEARS the game was always played on the 2nd Sat. of October. It had something to do with the State Fair schedule, I think.

Wrong again.

I love the 11 am games where we can leave the hotel, get to the stadium, kick the damn thing off, then immediately leave and get out of that God-forsaken area of Dallas. I HATE the ****ing fair, I HATE the crappy beer there, I HATE the greasy food there, I pretty much HATE everything about it - except the game.

Plus, with an 11 am kick, you can do all your partying Saturday night. Only young, dumb fools go out till the wee hours on Friday night before OU/TX. Yes, I used to, but now we just hit happy hour at the hotel, go out for dinner and drinks, and are back at the hotel by 10 or so. Much better for Saturday.

yea, I'm with Dean. I take it easy the Fri before. I don't like to be beer queasy before/during the game.... I like to be in a beer frenzy during the game.

I'm getting to the point that I'm with gf1 and dean, once I hit 25 I can't go on a bender Fri night and banter with idiot whorns and fully enjoy the game the next day. I'll get a good night's sleep, get up early and start pregaming and cookin in the parking lot.

The year President Boring called off school the Monday after for a "snow day" was the year before I arrived at OU. Students were really hoping for it to happen again, but never did.

Perhaps they should have a little fall break extended the other way - thursday and friday - to let students get all their Dallas partying out beforehand... and probably afterward too, with a football game as the eye of the storm?

I'll admit - almost every OU-Tex game I was in the band, so the kickoff time was very important, as it involved what time wakeup calls and early morning rehearsal stuff was. With an 11 a.m. or noon start time, it would have been too early to have a morning rehearsal, so it was straight from breakfast to the game. With a 2:30 start time, they are going to once again have to go to a morning rehearsal, heh heh. Poor kids.

The Friday night part I agree with. Now, it's a couple of martinis, some really good food, maybe an after dinner cigar.. and home at a reasonable hour.

Saturday.. of course the food is greasy and crappy. The beer is warm too. It's the experience though. It's the doing that routine for over 30 years.

And.. I am amazed at the people who hang around the Fair win or lose after the game. I just want to get the hell out of dodge and go somewhere more civilized.

Id disagree on one thing, but only partially.

I still enjoy going out to the West End or Deep Ellum on Friday night, I dont partake in all the yelling and screaming anymore and havent for about 3 or 4 years but I do enjoy the atmosphere and being around all of the fans, its a good time

The westend hasn't been the same for years. In 2002 you could walk with beers on the street and the atmosphere was so much better with the fans of both teams together. Now you gotta go to bars with cover charges and it becomes segregated with fans from either school.

Still a good time but nothing like it use to be. Thankfully I'm in my 30's and the game is what I look forward to most. Last year I was shocked about how different it's become.
