LOS ANGELES -- ESPN personality and AOL sports columnist Jay Mariotti has been arrested on a felony charge in Los Angeles.

Officer Norma Eisenman says the 51-year-old Mariotti was arrested early Saturday in the police department's Pacific Division following a "domestic incident." Eisenman declined to provide further details.

The Sheriff's Department website confirms Mariotti was booked on an undisclosed felony charge at 5:45 a.m.

He was released on $50,000 bail just after noon Saturday.

ESPN spokesperson Josh Krulewitz said, "We've just learned of it and are looking into it," declining further comment.

Mariotti lives in Los Angeles. He is a panelist on the ESPN show "Around the Horn" and writes a regular column for the sports website Fanhouse.com, which is owned by AOL.

He was a longtime columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times.

FanHouse editor-in-chief Scott Ridge said, "We are in the process of gathering the facts, and we have no further comment at this time."

i think hawk harrelson also punched him in the face around that time in relation to that. i dont like hawks broadcasting but i support him punching mariotti in the face.

heres a recent article by him complaining about punishment for violence in baseball, wonder if he will think his punishment is tough enough?

Mariotti is my least favorite person on the show. That said, I think the entire show should be scrubbed and relaunched with most importantly a non greasy host, and new, and younger, sports journalists.

I like Woody Paige but J.A. Adande and Michael Smith wear on me. I like Blackistone, Cowlisha and just mentioned Woody. PTI needs to get a reboot as well.

I think it will eventually, but someone on PTI will have to leave first.

Well, considering HBick said he wants younger hosts, but for reasons unknown, dislikes the two youngest hosts - and even mentioned the oldest host twice - I'm guessing he'd like to see Wilbon go. Either that, or he's a Dallas guy, and grew up with Cowlishaw and Blackistone. Although I guess they're not mutually exclusive.
