Michael Been, frontman and guitarist of the '80s alt-rock band The Call, died Thursday in Belgium after suffering a heart attack backstage at a Black Rebel Motorcycle Club show.
The 60-year-old Been, who was serving as the indie rock band's sound engineer, was the father of the BRMC's vocalist/bassist, Robert Been.
According to a BRMC press release" "often referenced as the fourth member, Been spent countless hours in the studio acting in many roles from mentor and guide, to helping the now internationally revered band capture their sound to tape."
The Call -- formed in Santa Cruz in 1980 -- are best-known for "The Walls Came Down," "Let the Day Begin” and "I Still Believe" (Great Design)," which appeared in the '80s vampire cult-film The Lost Boys.
