Any reason why?
Way seemed very comfy concentrating on punting from a recent interview.

Its a school thing, I cant say what it is.
But my source says Tress Way is most likely to be KOS.
Michael Hunnicut has a shot at it, but they like Ways consistency better.

In other news relating to the OU roster, kicker Matt Moreland won't be with the team, Stoops said. Moreland, from Bishop Kelley, was a walk-on who was a kickoff specialist last season.

"It doesn't look like his academic issue is going to be resolved," Stoops said. "He is not going to be with us."

Hey, a walk-on that regularly sees the field ain't bad, even if all he does is kick a ball from a tee!

lots of kickers are walk-ons...if he was seeing the field regularly at a skill position as a walk-on, that would be different

I knew a bunch of froshies back in the dorms that were not making the grades for various reasons who didn't even have majors. Yes, that means they were failing Experiencing Music, Gateway 1103, The history class they already took in high school, and Remedial Math... just 12 credits usually and they were still flunking.

Why? Ummm... not enough time at the Prentice Gautt Center?

Lived on Walker 8 my freshman year. Supposed the "Honors" floor back then. It was, but man, first time away from the parents was not a good thing to see... People walking around at all hours, smoking pipes with tobacco shop smoke and drinking scotch and chatting with the opposite secks on the other end of the elevator lobby. Missing classes - not a good mix to stay at OU. Many were gone at the end of the semester. They may have thought they were cool and "adult" but they flunked out...

I did a brief amount of tutoring for the Ath Dept many years ago and about 90% of the guys were above average bright. The other 10% made me facepalm about 99% of the time.

as someone who started school pre-internet and finished post-internet, i can tell as from experience that you have to be a particular brand of moron to not succeed in college these days.

i mean... just stupid and lazy and ****in worthless. especially given all the extra tutoring and other academic help programs athletes have access to.

The odd thing is Matt is listed as a senior, so he must have been able to perform at an acceptable level in the past. Must have lost interest for some reason.

Things like this happen. Matt isn't the first Kid to have something like this happen. I believe his Dad is Victor Moreland who was Head Coach of the Tulsa Roughneks and an Ex-Professional NASL Soccer Player. I'm betting there is more to this story but the one thing I've learned as a Fan over the years that Kickers do get in slumps and they can have grade problems as well as many other things in life happen that might even put School and I dare say Football to the back seat.

Matt wasn't the best Kickoff guy we ever had...but I always thought he was trying to up his game. I wish him well and I hope he at least able to finish his degree someday.

It bugs me that Ratterree is still a walk-on--I'd give him a scholly just for saving the shut-out last year against Lil Sis, but he seems to have at least proven himself good enough for a scholly, and it's not like we have a ton of depth at that position.

Don't mean to hijack, just made me think of that.

Sucks for Moreland, hope he gets it all figured out.

NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops doesn't expect kickoff specialist Matt Moreland to be with the team this season due to academic issues.

Stoops said after practice Friday that Moreland's academic situation hadn't been resolved and the senior likely wouldn't be kicking for the Sooners.

Moreland was the kicker for all 81 of the Sooners' kickoffs last season and recorded six touchbacks. On average, opponents started drives on the 26-yard line.

The Sooners, who struggled with kicking last season, still have Patrick O'Hara, Jimmy Stevens and Michael Hunnicutt competing to be the team's kicker. Punter Tress Way could also handle kickoffs.

According to several sources (including Moreland's FaceBook page) senior kicker Matthew Moreland has left the Oklahoma football team. There's no indication as of why he's leaving just yet but the current depth chart shows juniors Patrick O'Hara and Jimmy Stevens as the two kickers so playing time could have been an issue. Moreland played his high school ball at Bishop Kelly in Tulsa. Good luck Matt in wherever life may lead you!

6/81= 7.4% of his kickoffs were touchbacks. Awesome.

Yeah...Its a horrible story..I remember people was all talking about him being inspirational and such as a player and how great he was...because he wore the uniform, he was just put into a category as a great human..which I dont understand
