Two movies, two bridges, two wars and William Holden dies at the end of both em . . .I believe it is Bridges at Toko-Ri and it is set during the Korean War not WWII.

I'm glad somebody mentioned 12 O'Clock High and Bridge on the River Kwai . Both are just plain great movies. I'm sorry no one mentioned Stalag 17, though. And btw, I don't think Bill Holden dies in Bridge...Kwai. Just sayin. ;)

I must have seen the one with the alternate ending then.

Shears (Holden) was killed by a mortar fired by the British major, who did it so Shears would not be taken alive by the Japanese. That was why he said to the Thai women who helped them, "I had to do it!"
