Make a case for who you think will win the Heisman

All opinions welcome, but leave out Jimmy Stevens (it aint happening)

My top pick: Ryan Mallett, Arkansas. Second year in Bob Petrino's qb-friendly system, and lots of tv exposure.

My darkhorse pick: Chris Ponder, FSU. He's better than you think.

But Ponder was recently quoted saying that he thought the FSU offense, at this point, was embarrassing.

He might be trying to mess with everyone's minds though

Ponder's going to have WAY better numbers than he's had so far to even get an invite to NY. Media hype isn't enough. He's going to have to actually throw for a ton of yards, a bunch of TD's and have few turnovers. And FSU is actually going to have to win nearly all their games. Seems like to high a mountain to climb to me.

i really like dion lewis, but pitt is breaking in a new QB with no experience which has me worried about his production taking a hit. defenses are going to load the box and key in on lewis and make pitt hurt them through the air. however, if that new QB can play...look out.

as for picking this year's winner...the field appears to be pretty wide open, so i think it's going to be someone we don't think much about during the pre-season. i don't think mark ingram was getting a whole lot of heisman love this time last year. i'm going to go out on a limb just for the hell of it and say stanford QB Andrew Luck wins it.

DeMarco Murray, of course. You heard it here first.

Mark Herzlich, Boston College.

If ESPN has any say, and they usually do, they will latch onto this feel-good story early in the season and only let go if the guy stops playing.

Yes, he's on defense. Yes, he's already reportedly injured. BUT, he beat cancer.

again, like i posted on the Jones vs Pryor thread.

6 of the last 7 Heisman played in the National Title game. Tebow being the exception with a record breaking season.

so basically who ever you "pick" will need to play in the Title game.

pick accordingly... just saying.

Mallett and Ponder have zero chance of playing in the Title game.

Since 5 of the last 7 have been QB's, I'm gonna say Jake Locker.

if we run the table, Jones could be the winner... or even 1 loss, and a big 12 championship win.

last 3 Heisman winners, all sophomores.

Imagine if Jones comes outs dominates Florida State.

Then throws for 4tds 340 yards against texas, with a Win.

now we are talking Heisman stuff.

and a big road win against Missouri.

and then he pees on Nebraska.

Jones does not have the media yet. but it could happen.

keep an eye on the boise qb. he had sick numbers last year, and if they run the table he will be in ny., sitting by jake locker, ryan mallett, and terrell pryor. my dark dark dark dark dark horse pick, if by some miracle they go 9-3, is robert griffin III.

No way they go undefeated, but I DO think FSU will be a surprise team this year. Looking at their schedule, I think they win 8-9 games. Remember, Heisman winners typically get heavy exposure in a good performance both EARLY and LATE in the season. Ponder will face you guys early and Florida late.

If he has a big game against you guys, for instance, in a losing cause I think that still pushes his stock WAY up.

Dark Horse..... Cam Newton!

They play UGA, LSU, and ARK at home! Of the 3, only Ark poses any threat this year. No FL this year either. If they can muster an upset at Bama, or if he can at least run wild, which I think he will.... he could be a shoe in!

For what it's worth, The Heisman Pundit (http://heismanpundit.com/2010/02/09/future-heisman-contenders-from-the-class-of-2010/) has Bell as a possible heisman watch candidate in the future. :pop:

I think Pryor will have a good shot at winning the Heisman. He is a flashy player and tOSU has a weak schedule, as usual.

Salt City Sooner
8/19/2010, 11:26 AM
tOSU plays 4 teams in the current top 14, w/ 2 of those on the road. Now I can't see them all staying there because 3 of them are in the Big 10 so they'll be knocking each other off, but as of right now, that's pretty stiff in my books.

badger
8/19/2010, 11:32 AM
Heisman voters need to take a stand - tOSU has SEVEN Heisman trophies. Don't give them #8 unless the player is really, really special. Don't just hand the trophy to the top tOSU player every time they're headed for the title game. Make the player himself earn it, not the school's name, not piggybacking off his team.
