Pretty intense. I haven't been to a game in Norman since the 2000 OU/Nebraska game, and my five seasons at OU were pretty lackluster for fan support, so it's hard to compare the two.

However, it's hard to imagine the tailgating being any better than it is in Tuscaloosa. The setups these people have are amazing. For example, the group I usually hung out with for pregame would set up a pavilion with 8 RVs boxing out an enclosed area. Each RV would have one or two flatscreens hooked up to directTV mounted to the side so we could hang out and watch all the other games. The food would always be themed: for South Carolina, everything was chicken. For LSU, cajun food.

The games themselves...nothing will ever beat singing the OU chant and following up with Boomer Sooner, or the Drum Major cruising down the field with his plume brushing the turf. That being said, hearing 90+k chanting "Roll Tide Roll" during "Sweet Home Alabama" is awesome. Screaming "Rammer Jammer Yellowhammer" at the end of the game is awesome-particularly when the crowd is completely insane, like after the Tennessee game last year.

Post-game...I'm an old man now, so I can't get into the after parties like I used to. While I was at OU, people were usually depressed after games anyhow.

It sounds like your time at OU was about the same as mine ('93 through '97 for me). Anyway, I did go to the OU/Alabama game in Tuscaloosa in the early part of this decade (2003?) and I don't remember anything there that was beyond what I saw at OU games on a big game day. Had a good time though... just not something beyond what I'd been a part of before.

I've been to a wide variety of games in SEC country, and I can say that, outside of Baton Rouge, the fans are among the most friendly and courteous when it comes to making visiting fans feel at home. This goes for non-conference fans, of course. The atmosphere can vary depending on the intensity of the rivalry.

The LSU bunch is the exception to every rule. They are obnoxious on the road and unbearable at home. With that said, though, a night game in Baton Rouge is an allsome experience if you bring enough alcohol to get in the spirit of the thing. It helps to be big and intimidating looking, too.
