Returning QB vs New QB...OU/TX stats

Last year at the end of the season, the top 5 teams were Alabama, OSU, Texas, Florida, Boise St.

2008 the top 5 were OU, Texas, FL, USC, Utah

Take a wild guess how many of those teams were breaking in a new QB.
(sanchez for SC is the only one, started in the NFL as a rookie)


Under Bob Stoops OU has started the season with a new QB in 99, 01, 05, 06, 07, and 09 (after SB got hurt in the 1st game)

05 - 22

06 - 11

07 - 8

09 - unranked


So, with a new QB, OU finished in the top 10 once ( that was with the best freshman QB in CFB history )


Texas started with a new QB in 98, 01, 03, and 06

So with a new QB, Texas finished in the top 10 once (with Major winning the Holiday Bowl) Zero Big 12 titles

I don't believe he was the main starter in 99 or 00. In fact, I don't think he started at all. Anyway, Jason White was a new starting QB in 02 (Hybl finished up 01) but JW had started a few games in 01, so I considered that not new.


Anyway, history says that since mack and stoops have been at OU/TX, each program has about these chances to finish in the top 10:


1. New QB (no starts) - about 15%

2. Returning QB (at least 3 or 4 starts) - about 85%




85% of the time, a rookie QB disapoints every time.
