Pretty sure Chipper is retiring after this season.

Jeter and A Rod will for sure get there. I really hope Pudge gets there. You don't get a whole lot of Catchers getting to that milestone.

Manny and Damon will be interesting. Manny would probably benefit by moving to the AL where he can DH. Not sure how much longer Damon will want to play.

Ichiro will definitely get there. He will still continue to be productive for the next few seasons. When you consider he's only been in MLB for 10 years, it is quite amazing the hit total he has racked up. If you add his MLB and Japanese League hits he is already well over 3000 hits. He is currently 2nd in MLB in hits this year and hasn't finished a MLB season with less than 200 hits...ever. The guy can flat out hit.

my guess is only jeter & arod will make it to 3000.

Manny's been on the DL 3 times this year. i think this time it's been over 15 games. he missed 50 games (at least) last year because of suspension.

vastly overpaid, 45 mil for the last 2 years. on the other hand, dodgers score more runs when he plays.

too bad ichiro didn't get here sooner. he's a terrific all around ballplayer.

damon might make it.

strange that no yankees have ever made it. you'd think DiMaggio would've made it. he probably missed some war years.

ruth & gehrig had terrific batting averages, but they got so many bases-on-balls.

Actually, failure is having the highest payroll by an outrageous amount and still only winning one championship in the last 9 years.

wait, are we talking about championships (the most of any professional sports franchise in the U.S.) or are we talking about the impending failure of you rooting against the yankees on that list? seems like a lose-lose situation for you.

i'd like to think they're more like OU or Alabama. the yankees have a long history of winning championships. the texass longwhorns do not. :D

thread about 3000 hits.

ever notice that Hank Aaron has over 700 homers; but also has over 3000 hits not counting his homers. he should have 2 spaces in HOF.

Bonds is more impressive than any other baseball player, if you count roids aside.

500+ Homeruns, 500+ Stolen Bases

not a single player even has 400 400

some of those sluggers could've had lots more SB, their teams didn't want them to risk it.

JMHO

You seem to be having trouble understanding. The Yankees have the highest payroll in the league, and in fact, it more than DOUBLES over 3/4ths of the league. It even TRIPLES 9 different teams. It is downright pathetic that they have managed only one championship in 9 years.

Im a Yankees fan..and all the hate doesn't bother me any..

Its called life...2 businesses open up on the same street, lets say restaurants...one side of the street, the guy has 10,000 dollars to invest in advertising, curb appeal, etc...on the other side of the street, the owner has 100,000 dollars to invest in the same thing..The business with more money grows quickly and is able to put together a better restaurant than the guy across the street..is it unfair? no, thats life...

Whats unfair is if the guy with the better restaurant has to share his money with the owner across the street because he doesnt have as much.

If baseball had a salary cap this wouldnt be an issue, as long as teams just have to pay the tax for spending 'too much' then it doesnt really matter

stoops the eternal pimp
8/14/2010, 10:11 AM
Well people tend to blame their teams success/failure based on the payroll...And I think it has less to do with it than what people say...its about your ownership and your minor league system...

When looking at the MLB payroll rankings, its scattered with failures and successes from the top to the bottom of the list

Collier11
8/14/2010, 10:21 AM
Those people who whine about the Yankees spending too much should in turn be whining about the teams who get that revenue sharing $ and stick it in their pockets.

As long as baseball does it this way then there should be a minimum payroll

And yes, it really doesnt matter how much or how little money that you spend, its how you spend it. Look at my Cardinals who are consistently good and in the lower half of the top 10 of payroll, look at the Marlins in different years or the Reds etc...

Rays, Rangers this year...On the other side of that, Look at the Cubs

well, they are just the cubs therefore they will always suck

is there a more futile pro franchise in existence, seriously?

texaspokieokie
8/14/2010, 10:39 AM
dodgers are a huge mess. it's been longer since they were in world series than ever before.

i don't see any signs of them getting to the WS in the next few years.

kudos to rangers, jon daniels & nolan ryan. also washington. they're finally putting it all together & look like they could go all the way.
i give most of the credit to jon d.; some of his trades have been masterful.

& i'm absloutely NOT a rangers fan.

per above, dodgers cannot progress until McCourt divorce is final.

the rangers have only been around since 1961 (senators 2) but they've only ever won one post season game.

Yea but the cubs misery spans over 100 years

texaspokieokie
8/14/2010, 11:50 AM
yeah, but the cubs (over more than 100 yrs) have probably won several post season games.

Collier11
8/14/2010, 12:00 PM
the cubs are so bad they blame blowing a 3-1 NLCS lead on a fan who messed up 1 play that Alou may or may not have made, lol :D

That doesn't seem to be the reason for the Yankees' success.

Collier11

actually it is, the Yankees consistently have great prospects that they can ship off for proven talent

texaspokieokie
8/14/2010, 03:14 PM
The same team that was in the NLCS last year?

yep, that's the one. they don't look (to me) nearly as good as they did last year. broxton just got demoted. manny's been on DL 3 times.
the big 3, ethier, loney & kemp are hitting sporadically.

martin is out for season.

bullpen looks to me to be a mess.

rotation really doesn't look too bad.

22 years since dodgers have been in series, longest ever.

messy McCourt divorce is keeping dodgers from making big time deals.

McCourts purchase of team was highly leveraged & everything is in
limbo until divorce is settled.

i really don't know how their farm team talent supply looks.

saw where Bobby Thomson died.
his famous homer was a crushing blow for a young Dodgers fan. (me)

crushing also for Ralph Branca. took him years to get over it, if he ever did.

kemp's been acting the brat lately.

I think the most apt description of Kemp was one I heard the other day.

"Jeff Kemp is an athlete that plays baseball, as compared to someone who is a baseball player that happens to be an athlete."

He's at a stage where he needs a change of scenery to a team that can allow him to develop as a baseball player without the pressure of being in a LA or NY or Chicago. Quite honestly, he'd be better off in a Baltimore right about now.

That doesn't seem to be the reason for the Yankees' success.

current players on the yankees who originally came from within the organization's farm system:

Derek Jeter
Mariano Rivera
Jorge Posada
Andy Pettite
Nick Johnson
Phil Hughes
Brett Gardner
Robinson Cano
Ramiro Pena
Francisco Cervelli
Marcus Thames
David Robertson
