Heh..

"This isn't how responsible families do their budgets. When times are tough, you tighten your belts," he said at a New Hampshire forum today. "You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage. You don't blow a bunch of cash in Vegas when you're trying to save for college. You prioritize. You make tough choices. And it's time your government did the same."

you send your wife flying all around the world, in a 747.
wherever she wants to go, if they'll have her.

she's burned more fuel than i have in my whole life, & i'm very old.

but they want us to cut back & go "green".

From my understanding, she paid for personal expenses and the government footed the bill for travel and security.

Which... they do every other day of the year anyway, regardless of where the first lady and first daughters are.

I am not pro-bama, but every white house family takes vacations eventually and there's no choice in regard to what transport method they take or how much security they receive. It is always taxpayer-provided and required. The first family members do not fly in boarding group C on Southwest and ask a few members of the Secret Service to stay home this time to cut costs.

Again, I did not in 2008, and have no intention in 2012 of voting for Obama. I am unimpressed with the way he has handled this financial crisis and immigration issues in this country, seemingly putting it on the backburner to pass his own priorities, like health care legislation (not that it wasn't necessary, but other issues should have come first).

However, not gonna criticize a vacation.

A vacation is one thing. I don't blame Queen Michelle for needing a vacation away from her Husband.

Most of America would like the same at this point.

But spending what amounts to almost twice the annual median national household income PER DAY overseas while your husband bankrupts the country and sends the economy into the ditch is another.

Security and travel were probably the largest expenses, because it's not like the first lady and daughters would be safe and have privacy in a Holiday Inn Express, so I'll cut them some slack here.

And like Tuba said, they probably needed time away from Barack. Daddy is way more famous than most fathers, and the daughters are still pretty young, and it's not like they can just go to Disneyworld by themselves when the public/media cuts into family time.

Let's see, there are 300 million people in this country. She's spending $75,000 a day. Let me pull out my abacus.

OK, it looks like if she spent $75,000 every day on this vacation for the next 40 days it would cost me one cent.

Yep, I'm not going to worry about it.

OklahomaTuba

Just think of the trip she coulda had if she were first lady of China!!!!

Then they could afford to fly their dog someplace in its own private jet!

I think we should give Obama and his 99 closest friends $3,000,000 today just because it would make him very happy and it only costs us a dollar.

After you read that link, read this one (http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/bo.asp). Bo was on a plane with aides and other staffers. It was not a private plane just for the puppy, as cute and as wasteful as that sounds.

I guess you never gave much thought to what that form you or someone you paid filled out, along with the check you wrote to go with, that you sent to that place in Austin, TX on or before April 15 of every year meant, but in my house it isn't trivial and meaningless . . .

I don't know if $75K per day would be enough, but I would want to visit the international space station and try to make out with an astronaut in zero gravity.

as the wife of the president, she gets a security detail. as the wife of the president, she gets to travel on the taxpayers dime. this isnt a new paradigm. i cant recall the last first lady that never took a trip. i also cant recall the last time a first lady went anywhere without her secret service detail.

the president has yet to send the economy 'into the ditch". every bailout loan made by the obama administration is on schedule to be paid back earlier than originally specified, and companies across the board are reporting profits, once again.

While we're at it, military folks get to retire after 20 years with benefits, their union has obviously grown far to powerful.

I'd spend my vacation searching for John Helander and bring him back to the SO.

I think $75,000 per day would be sufficient to cover my expenses. Might take me about a hundred days or so, but I think I could do it.

starting salary for a private in the army... $16,800 (annually)

starting pay for an okc fireman... $38,000 (annually)

both are dangerous. firemen work about 120 days a year. private in the army will get a couple days off a week assuming someone in his unit hasnt ****ed up and gotten liberty secured for everyone.

quite frankly... the job cops and firemen do isnt worth what they get paid.

Well to be fair, when you squander away more than what the civil war, great depression and world war II combined cost in a mere 18th months, then that's just a little bit more than "some spending".

It's actually a world record I believe.
