I noticed 6 coaches from the Big12 who are on the voting committee this year:

Art Briles-BU
Bo Pelini-NU
Gary Pinkel-MU
Paul Rhodes-ISU
Mike Sherman-A&M
Tommy Tuberville-TT

Even though that I agree with putting * ahead of us for motivation sake (and with recent history), if they are the #4 team in the country this year, people are really stretching. Most honest FLA fans don't put them at #3, as I thought that BSU would be a mortal lock to be #3. Another laugher is VA TECH at 6. I think some of the reasoning to rank them that high is to hype the season opener against BSU.

I am content with 8th, as that is about where I thought we would be. NU at 9 is about right, as right now, I think you could flip a coin between us and them (and *, for that matter). According to this, we could (supposing NU wins the North) play 8 teams who are either ranked or receiving votes (*, NU, FSU, Cincy, Mizzou, OSU, Tech, and A&M).

I think Florida is massively overranked this year. I see three losses in their future. Jesus wont be moving the first down chains this year.

I'm content with #8. I will let them rank * as high as they want. Its just fuel in the fire. Lets just let T. Lewis get these boys pumped up!

Agree generally with this proposition but think that VaTech does beat Boise in the opener.

It's going to be fun gradually creeping up that list until we beat texas and jump to the top 2.

They better beat Boise, or BSU will get votes for the big game.

And one last thing....how often does an unranked team from the previous season crack the pre-season top ten? That's a testament to Sooner tradition and greatness: Not only do we expect to be there, we're expected to be there!

If OUr team stayed intact last year, we're 12-2 at worst (I'll be generous and give Tech their W and either a BIG 12 CCG or BCS loss). I could buy us being the 4-loss effort Andre Ware called for a year ago-- this year. You'd have an O-Line with serious questions to answer, an unproven quarterback and big losses on defense.

We're bot so much in everybody's top 10 due to being Oklahoma. We're there because much of 2010's team earned their stripes a year ago. Pollsters have had no problem stiffing us in the past. Remember chairman of the BCS saying the Oregon game wouldn't be held against us? OUr only loss going into the post season in that scenario would have been to the defending National Champions. We'd be right in the thick of the whole Michigan/Florida/Boise State conversation to play Ohio State for it all.

I think an 8 is about right. It says, "we really like what you've got, but you've got some more earning to do before we go putting you in the BCSNCG."

Not a bad list. OU ranking is a good place to be. I'd put Florida down a little, as well as *. New QBs have to prove their ability.

Breaks my heart to see USC off the list.

Probably the biggest fall will come from Virginia Tech...

Man, I am really surprised Boise is not higher...FL and Texass are to high imo..didn't they lose alot? Good thing though, Boise can say it on the field, they are close enough in points behind FL Tx, that a win over Vatech will jump the ahead of both teams.

#8 is a bit high for us as well, I'd like to see us prove it on the field.

Freggin Pokes got 11 votes?? Who in the hell are they? that's a 4-8 team in the making..lol

anyone have the stats on where Va Tech has been ranked to start the season and where they ended up for about the past 5 seasons or so? it seems they always lose one or two games that they shouldn't each year.

Tre Newton is a good running back. he's the starter going into the season and if he can stay healthy, i think he's going to surprise some people. and what's funny is that he was probably the most unheralded RB coming out of high school out of all the running backs on the roster.

Yeah, i like that line of argument. Also, with TX at 4 and us at 8, they are basically saying that the winner at the Cotton Bowl gets to be in the top 5 and contend for the national championship. Who cares if they like TX better now? We have the chance to prove them wrong.
