Can someone recommend me a book about a war to read. Preferably, focused on pre-WWII European ones, or Naval History. I need something to work into my non-fiction rotation.

Trafalgar, the Nelson Touch, David Howarth.

A good simple intelligent account of the battle, and not very long. It's the first account of the battle I ever read.

I can't think of any PRE WWII books since WWII is kind of a passion of mine. "Run silent, Run Deep" is a great story though.

Any book by John C. McManus -- most are about grunts from WWII-present but all are great.

Try Europe Central by Vollman. It's fiction but it won the National Book Award. The thing is a monster, but it's an amazing book.

Sorry... it's WWII: The Battle of the Bulge (originally titled Dark December) by Robert E. Merriam.

1776 by McCullough. It recounts the engagements as much as anything, and I think you would find the details about Britain's naval and expeditionary forces assembled to obliterate the rebellion of interest.

That's actually probably what I'll end up with as it's near the top of my Amazon Wish list at the moment. It's seems logical to get that ahead of the one I want about the Battle of the Marne.
