They can run upwards of 1500 depending on Make and model

Older cars and trucks ya can just weld a piece of pipe in there and get by. But the newer ones will set a code and the thing wont run right.

My wife's was stolen last year while she was parked at work. At the day after our local news idiots did a story on how thieves actually do it.

She called the station and thanked them for doing a seminar for the bastards.

GKeeper, do you have a plan to keep thieves from stealing your catalytic converter?

I was up in Baltimore last year working. We all park our rental cars on one side of a building at one of the Northrop-Grumman facilities. Broad daylight, middle of the day, some **********s come through and cut off about 20 or so. Nobody saw anything. They sure heard it though when they fired up the rental cars. Mine didn't get taken - guess they got tired or something.

Our society needs to get serious about thievery.

Install some of the anti-carjacking devices they have in South Africa.

At least after this happens it's safer to park in the grass.

No, we still ticket you for that in our community.

They convert your catalytics.

Srsly, they go on the end of your exhaust system and are full of platinum, which is a catalyst for a chemical reaction that removes nasty chemicals from your car's exhaust.

Platinum is worth a crap-ton of money.

I know what they are, just don't use them. My Mustang had a straight pipe system :D
