anyone remember the Eagles song "Certain Kind of Fool" on Desperado?

the part "he was a poor boy" always makes me think of "only the lonely" from the Motels song, which i heard first, but was obviously later

then like 2 minutes in, there is this "No More Mr. Nice Guy" riff. is that a nod to Alice Cooper, or vice-versa? did they both rip it off from the same place?

the Eagles album and the Alice Cooper album seem to have come out the same year, but i have no idea which was first.

that song just always throws me off. it's a cool album with Oklahoma connections themed around the Doolin-Dalton gang

and yes, i probably should be sleeping :D

hard to think the Eagles would pay much tribute to their influences seeing how their whole early "Take it Easy"-faux country type stuff is a straight rip of Gram Parsons. but, hey.

that they might have been influenced by the Detroit dirty guitar band (early) Alice Cooper, seems weird to me. but, that stuff was great. If you want my body, under my wheels, touch me i'm sick, etc. before they/he went theatre.

Alice Cooper should be in the Hall of Fame. He mixed horror/shock/entertainment with good ole rock and roll.

I know a lot of "serious" rock musicians didn't like him - more show than anything else, but it's just rock and roll.

He says you can't shock anyone these days, unless you literally cut off an arm during the performance, but you could do that only twice.

well, he's as much to blame for that as anyone else :D

I'm willing to bet something like that is coincidence. Meaning the songs being similar.

artists rip each other off all the time. clapton freely admits that most of his riffs are other guys' stuff he just changed the tempo on or played in a different key.

you could also make the arguement that there hasnt been any real "new" music since the 18th century.

i couldn't find a link, but the guitar thing doesn't just sound similar, it sounds pretty much the same

the Motels thing i could pass off as coincidence

the Eagles suck. Glen Frey redefines sucking in a way that should make everyone think twice about sucking.

it's the Smuggler's Blues...which isn't a blues at all.

Just about everyone in classic rock really stole it from Robert Johnson even if they don't know it. But then again he stole from people in his era. Yeah everyone basically steals from everyone else in music and always has.

I don't know about Zeppelin they are completely different from Sabbath but all of the metal bands were pretty much Sabbath based. Zeppelin stole a lot of their early stuff from Robert Johnson, Buddy Guy, Chuck Berry, Otis Rush, and Willie Dixon.

Not Deep Purple. Their sound was already in place by the time they played Hush.

Those guys stunk.

Glad we were able to finagle the thread to some good stuff. This Eagles and Prince crap was gettin' me down.

Chuck Berry, Robert Johnson, and Buddy Guy are amazing. Don't care much for Rush or Dixon.

Deep Purple is usually considered the first heavy metal band by most. Some say Steppenwolf for that one song I say puhlease. But I've read interviews from Blackmore and their bassist for DP and they were blown away by Zeppelin when the first came out. So was Ozzy supposedly. I think Zeppelin was different from any of those bands because of their blues roots.

The Animals are great. Love 'em.

And the teacher of my music appreciation class (Mr. White Guilt Trippin') hated them, which made me love them that much more. After listening to hours of his "hep cat" blues and jazz, and I wanted to run his *** over in the parking lot.

agreed.

without robert johnson, there wouldnt have been anyone in england who gave a rat's *** about 8 and 12 bar blues. we would have never gotten any rolling stones or clapton.

robert johnson is considered by a great many people to be the greatest blues guitarist who ever lived.
