Tennessee Titans quarterback Chris Simms -- son of former Giants quarterback Phil Simms -- was busted on W. Houston Street this morning on charges of driving while stoned, The Post has learned.

Simms, 29, of Nashville, was observed with red eyes, flushed face and slurred speech at around 2 a.m., according to a source.

He spent this morning getting booked and awaiting arraignment at Manhattan Criminal Court on charges of operating a motor vehicle while impaired by marijuana.

Simms' father is a former Super Bowl MVP. He has also played for the Denver Broncos and the Tampa Bay Buckaneers. He has struggled to regain starter status since rupturing his spleen while playing for Tampa in 2005.

Phil Simms is now a football analyst with CBS and has a second son, Matt, who also is a football player.

UT is about to win the Fulmer Cup, aren't they?

(and I'm not talking about the UT that Fulmer coached at)

I wonder if, when Chris gets really stoned, he sees Roy Williams flying over the line at him. That could make a guy pretty paranoid.

Must be an active member of the team in off-season at the time of infraction to qualify for Fulmer Cup points.

In other words, the little nit can't even score there.:D

Probably a terrible thing to say, but....

this actually raises my opinion of Chris Simms.

Maybe it was medicinal marijuana . . .

I never would have thought of that. (Although apparently Dio did.)

He's probably only in Tennessee now because VY needed a horn buddy to coddle him.

I think he has realized it doesn't matter how athletically gifted you are, you have to put your work in, and that is what I have seen from him so far this year," Simms said. "He has been putting his work in. He is in the meeting room. And in practice he has been pretty sharp.

They don't teach you to work at Texas, because too many boosters are handing you stuff for free

Simms got a raw deal from TB PTB. He was hurt really bad. I don't condone Driving While Impaired AT ALL. But if he gets relief AT HOME from pot, good for him. No damn skin off my nose whatsoever. Better pot than drinking himself to death, for sure.

I read an ESPN article about this, and it said that the police didn't find any marijuana. They smelled it though, and Simms's eyes were red and he was "slurring his speech" (what? why?).

I was also curious about the legality of the arrest: how do they prove intoxication without finding narcotics? I don't understand. It's not like alcohol where they can reasonably prove the offender's intoxication.

At any rate, I think provides a great excuse to watch Roy Williams embarrassing Simms again (or a dozen more times). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1MpHG5x6q0

Also, here's Matt Simms keeping up the family tradition.

Sorry loyal...I thought the Bucs gave him a fair shot to regain starter status...his throwing motion will never be the same...hell, they even kept for a full year when they knew he wasn't gonna play. They payed him a few million just to sent on the bench

You don't need to find beer or liquor, or even have BAC results, to prove someone is intoxicated with alcohol.

The same is with drugs.

I agree with you to some extent on that, hon - especially about the pay. It was the scuttlebutt about the way they treated him right after the injury and his disposability and the apparent uncaring attitude toward him & his family that keep cropping up and making Tampa Bay sound really horrid.

Gosh, I must be getting soft in my old age. I don't snicker and revel in a rival team's players screwing the pooch after they've moved to the next level, at least not like I used to. Drat. It's sorta like losing your sweet tooth as you get older. *sigh*

The Huffington Post sports crime report:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/sports-crime

I love the headline: "Chris Simms Arrested For Driving While On Drugs." I also am amused that three in the list involve Horns.

BTW, did we all forget that there was a fourth Horn arrested recently? Shaun Rogers.

So, who's next in the list:

1. Shaun Rogers
2. Vince Young
3. Cedric Benson
4. Chris Simms
5. ????????? (Are there any Horns left? Oh yeah, Ricky Williams.)
