Men’s College World Series Notes – Game 3 – June 20, 2010
Oklahoma 4, South Carolina 3 Attendance: 22,835 (2010 MCWS total - 69,755)

Oklahoma will play the winner of Monday’s Arizona State/Clemson Tuesday night at 8 p.m. CT

South Carolina will play the loser of Monday’s Arizona State/Clemson game in an elimination game Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. CT

General Notes:
*-Prior to today, Oklahoma and South Carolina have squared off only one time, a 13-2 victory by South Carolina on 2/9/2007
*-The start of today’s game was delayed 4:15 by inclement weather
*-The game was delayed in the bottom of the sixth inning for 2:01
*-It marks the first time since 1987 that the first four games were played over more than two days (Game 4 between Clemson and Arizona State will take place Monday at 10 a.m. (central)
*-Since 1988, the only two teams to drop an opener and win the MCWS are Southern California in 1998 and Oregon State in 2006.
*-Today’s game marked the first time that neither team scored multiple runs in an inning at the MCWS since 6/22/06 (Oregon State 2, Rice 0)
*-The last MCWS game without an error before tonight was a 4-3 win by North Carolina over Fresno State 6/21/08.
*-With tonight’s win by Oklahoma, Southeastern Conference teams fall to a combined 5-14 in MCWS openers dating back to 2001 (0-2 in the 2010 MCWS)
*-It is the 239th one-run game in MCWS history. There been at least three one-run games in every year since 2000.
*-Monday’s MCWS tripleheader will be the first one since 6/2/1980.
Oklahoma
*-The Sooners improve to 76-63 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, including 6-1 this season.
*-Oklahoma is 15-14 in 10 MCWS appearances and is making is first MCWS appearances since 1995.
*-Oklahoma is 5-5 all-time in MCWS openers with its last opening-round win coming during its 1994 NCAA title run. OU’s other MCWS opening wins came in 1951, 1972 and 1974.
*-The win was the 50th for Oklahoma this season, giving the Sooners’ five 50-win seasons in program history and the first since winning 50 games in its NCAA title season in 1994. OU’s other 50-win seasons came in 1975 (55) 1976(62) and 1985 (55).
*-Oklahoma is now 13-6 in one-run games this season and now 63-25-1 in one-run games under Sunny Galloway.
*-OU has now played six one-run games in the MCWS (3-3 record), including three opening-round games. Before tonight, OU lost one-run openers in 1985 (3-2 to Florida State) and 1973 (1-0 to Minnesota). The Sooners’ three one-run victories came against Auburn (5-4) in 1994, Temple (2-1) in 1972 and Ohio State (9-8 in 10 innings) in 1951.
*-OU is now 40-0 when leading after eight innings (74-1 over last two seasons)
*-With tonight’s save, OU’s Ryan Duke picked up his 28th career save, matching the school record set by Jeff Bajenaru (1999-2000).
*-It was the 24th time this season that Oklahoma has scored in the first inning and OU is now 23-1 when scoring in the first inning of games
*-OU now has 102 homers on the season, a total which ranks eighth nationally and the most of any of the 2010 MCWS teams. It is OU’s highest total since hitting a school record 114 homers in 1998. The Sooners have hit 12 homers in seven NCAA Tournament games.
*-Oklahoma has homered in 21 of its last 24 contests and the Sooners have 29 multi-homer games this season. OU has now hit 20 homers in the eighth inning or later in games this season.
*-Oklahoma is now 4-0 in the NCAA Tournament when scoring first and 27-5 when scoring first this season.
*-Chris Ellison extended his hitting streak to eight games with a first-inning single, and has reached base safely to begin each of the last four games
*-Garrett Buechele’s eighth inning homer was his 17th of the season, a total which is second in the Big 12 Conference.
*-Oklahoma starter Michael Rocha has lasted at least five innings in all seven of his starts this season. Rocha went six innings for his eighth win of the season.
