It's hard to decide without bias between OU, Bammer and SC for who gets the #1 honor of the decade. SC had less wins and should have 1 less title. So if anything it's between Alabama and Oklahoma.

Some programs benefitted from a pre-bowl loss national title, 1 loss national titles, undefeated seasons with no national titles, undefeated seasons with national titles....it's chaotic obviously.

How would you all rank the teams?

SIDENOTES (other NCs from the 1970s):

TEXAS: 1970 Co-NC (crowned before loss in bowl)
PITTSBURGH: 1976 Outright NC going undefeated

If there's only one thing the BCS has "fixed," it's winning in the post-season matters.

that was fixed for both polls finally, sometime in the '70's, i think

what the BCS really fixed was putting #1 vs #2 and keeping just two major undefeated teams from going undefeated and not playing each other, like in '94 and '97

adding the 12th game seemed to help that as well.

it's worked except for Auburn in 2004. they never banked on 3 of them :D

as for the original thread. i'm giving it to Oklahoma since they had to play one of the other members of this list every year ;)

of course, so did USC and ND.

I dunno... it's hard to argue with total championships and Bammer had OU beat in both NCs and Conference championships.
