Arky left the SWC because they were tired of Texas, then Texas brought Houston in. Well, Houston started winning, so Texas left for the Big 12. No way Houston gets in now. :D

"Houston, the third-largest university in Texas, is a member of Conference USA. It was a member of the Southwest Conference until 1995."

I thought we just established yesterday that UNT was the third largest Texas school...

The current TV deal is going to be split 10 ways.
If Houston wants to play for free....bring 'em on.
Otherwise, STFU.

Actually, this is a joke. Houston's stadium holds about 30,000 safely. They added temporary bleachers a few years ago when the horns played in Houston and the bleachers caved in before game day.
Houston just announced a new stadium and a basketball arena renovation last week. the new stadium will hold 40,000 or so. The total cost is $160 million.
Now get this - the revenue is expected to come from $80 million for naming rights on the stadium, $20 million for naming rights on the BB arena. Another $15 million will come from ancillary naming rights (Pep Boys North Endzone, Pizza Hut parking lot, etc).

As one of the local sports radio talk show hosts stated last week - if they can really pull this off, the Houston AD will go down as the greatest AD in the history of the NCAA.

Maybe it's my primitive caveman lawyer brain, but isn't 40k seats kinda dinky for a 160 million price tag?

Surely they could do better if they tried.

You missedthe most important of the sentence:

The stadium is only $120 million. And it includes a complete demo of the existing stadium. Actually, I think that is kind of cheap if you look at new stadium construction costs.

Arkansas and LSU! That would be great. We could go east and west divisions. East-Arkansas, LSU, Kansas, Mizzou, Tex AM, and Iowa State
West- OU, Texas, Texas Tech, OSU, K State, and Baylor.

Coleman will find out quickly that he's in WAY over his head. ou likely gets more eyes in Houston that cougar high. They're moving up, and Sumlin is doing it right, but the MWC (who has said they are not expanding) would be a more logical step.

Cougar High is a rat hole.

In the middle of the third ward, commuter school...

They built temporary bleachers for the Texas - Cougar High game.. and the fire marshall would not issue a permit because of its shoddy construction. All of those seats which were sold beforehand had to be refunded or shoe horned in elsewhere.

Screw the Coogs.

Yep, let's all return to the failed SWC format.

First off this will never happen. Texass & dodds are still not over getting shown up by them 10 years ago. I believe that he said they would not even schedule Houston in any sport as long as he is the AD.

So a typical broadcast might sound like this: Ball is spotted at the Pepsi Cola 20-yard line, first and ten. Quarterback takes the snap, steps left and gets out to the FritoLay 23-yard line, second and seven. Ball is set, quarterback rolls right, throws and it is caught and downed at the AT&T 36 yard-line, first down!

That is very much what it is sounding like. I don't expect that this will ever get done. I would expect that they will settle for a much smaller number for naming rights and end up just renovating what is already there.

PS - And that would be a Bud Light First Down!!!!!

Stand corrected 2001.

He had a verbal from them that the game would be in the dome although it was not orginally in the contract between the two schools. They offered Texass a very small alottment of tickets and made the game available only through the purchase of Houston season tickets.
Houston AD refused numurous request by dodds after it was determined that the seats were unsafe to either move the game to the dome or rice stadium. The best they would offer is to let people who were now without a ticket to watch the game, an opportunity to watch the game on the jumbotron in the basketball arena. Houston's AD then appeared on a local Houston tv station and was talking bad about Dodd's and ut fans. I think Houston refunded texass fans after dodds threatened serious legal action, but the damage was already done.

People, let's not be stupid. There are no suitable additions to the conference!!
1st NO ONE IS LEAVING THE SEC. 2nd TCU can't fill a 35000 capacity stadium.
Even if they could. To hell with adding for Texas teams.
3rd BYU is the closest to being a fit, but they are a nightmare in other sports, because they don't play on sunday. They also present the same travel problems as the PAC10.
Don't give me some crap about grabbing some east coast team who wouldn't pull their weight anyway.

NEBRASKA KILLED THE VIABILTY OF THIS CONFERENCE AS A 12 TEAM CONFERENCE.
