how rough is it to get back after a game in Norman?

hopefully Air Force's option game makes it a short game...

if Air Force kicks at 1430, what are the odds of getting to the Brady Theater for the Pixies show that's supposed to start at 2030?

I'd say that would be a close call. When we would go, we'd come back east on Hwy 9 and then north on one of the roads back to I-40 then up through Okmulgee and Glenpool. It's longer than the turnpike route, but you miss a LOT of traffic.

game ends around 1830......20 minutes back to the car. 20 minutes to get to the highway.... 2 hours to Tulsa.....

I would guess you'd be about an hour late unless the game ends sooner or you leave early.

Game will be over at the half anyway. Just leave early and miss all the traffic.

i still say the turnpike is the best option.

It depends on what time the game starts.

11 a.m. start time - bad traffic.

2:30 p.m. wait an hour and traffic sucks less.

6 p.m. stay the night and don't worry about traffic. Stay at least an hour and it's not awful.

I've never left right after a game (family and friends to visit, Raisin' Canes to visit) so I recommend not trying to leave early or beat traffic or try to leave right after a game.

you shouldn't see I-35 on that route...

i have tried Homey's route, if you could rush down Hwy 9 and cut up through Seminole and beat most of the traffic to Stroud, i guess the T'Pike might not be that bad

i've only gone that route in the middle of the night though

i'm pretty good at fighting gameday traffic in general, but haven't ever tried to make that trip to Tulsa

i might try it on an earlier game to gauge it :D

i think the game should go shorter than 4 hrs though

We generally leave Norman driving east past Dirtybird, then head north just past Pink to jump on 40 at the Firewater Casino, go past Shawnee, then north again through Prague and enter the Turner at Stroud. Only downside is the potential for deer strikes after dark on the rural stretces of state highway. Muey faster than 35 North to the Turner. Plan on 3 hours from Campus Corner to Tulsa.

I'm SO gonna be late for that show. No two ways about it.

Heh. I shut off the radio and observe a moment of silence every time I pass that patch of hallowed ground. (I take the Homey-cut quite often, since I live closer to 9 than 35.)

What'll do me in is having to stick around for at least an hour after the final shotgun. Stupid awesome dream job. :D

I use this route, but head norte on 177 instead of 99/377.

Quickest route, by far, heading back from Norman. My record is 97 minutes to T-town after an OU game.

Game should be over by 5:45, anyway. Easily in Tulsa by 8:30.

Park off Lindsey down McKinley or George or whatever, then head E on Lindsey to Classen/77S, 9E, 102N, 40E, 177N, 44E. Just hope you don't get stuck behind some polesmoker doing 45 down 9.

.

you mustve sped like crazy!

I drove Norman to Tulsa all throughout college. I dont think I ever made it from Norman to Tulsa in under 1:45, and that is with no traffic and going low 80's on I-44......

I guess I measured by the time I got to my parent's house though, which is at 61st and Harvard, but still!
