we never have a playoff system, because, as the University Prezes have all said so well for so long, a playoff system would cheapen the rich, timeless, and immutable traditions -- and rivalries -- that make college football what it is !!

AKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!

The Word of the Day is:
HYPOCRISY - The assuming of a false appearance of virtue or goodness, with dissimulation of real character or inclinations, esp. in respect of religious life or beliefs; hence in general sense, dissimulation, pretence, sham.

Yep, you said a mouthful there. Very hypocritical ain't it.

The good thing about this is that if we go to the four superconferences two things will happen:

1. Fans and admins will complain that they don't get a shot at the title because the conferences are brutal and the final selections will be made almost completely arbitrarily.

2. Congress will get involved and potentially break up the superconferences due to antitrust laws. No idea if this is feasible, though...

You know this will happen.

With congressmen from Oklahoma, Texas, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Ohio, Minnesota, etc NOT supporting any antitrust legislation, how far can they really go? Utah, Kansas, and Missouri can only make so much noise. Throw Idaho in with those three.

Other than Nebraska and Colorado, which school presidents would be hypocritical? Pac-10 and Big 10 presidents are only extending invitations for schools to join their conference. The other conferences' presidents haven't done anything here.

Besides, one could argue that Nebraska leaving for the Big-10 is partly based on academic issues.

Let's say PAC 10 and Big 10 become 16 team conferences. The dominoes haven't all fallen yet. We could see the SEC add teams like Florida State, Miami, Georgia Tech then we could see a Big East/ACC alliance. We'll see what happens when the dust settles before talking about a playoff.

True. But it only takes 1 judge to overthrow the will of the masses. So, certainly they can find a judge to rule in their favor in a law suit somewhere, even if Congress can't, or won't, do something.

help me with this. Nebraska is superior to the rest of the B12 in academics? as Seth Meyers would say, "Really."

All this may be a move by the Pac-10 and Big-10 to put the Rose Bowl back on a tie-in basis. With OU, TX, and Nebraska now one of the two conferences, the two conferences can screw off the BCS. Possible?

You missed my point completely. Nebraska could justify moving to the Big-10 to INCREASE its academic reputation.

this non-BCS conference team getting in would shrink a bit, i'm thinking

the super conferences would limit the number of contested teams, assuming championship games, anyway

That makes a lot more sense than the way I read it first. What of the B10-11-12 research university dealio? Nebs had enough juice for that?
