Back to monday before election day, 2008. Never in my lifetime(65 yrs in July) have we had such a terrible group of people running the country-no, not even when Carter bumbled his way into office in 1976. At least Carter didn't/doesn't dislike our country. This nightmare needs to go away, before the private sector is no more, and we're all left with our hands out.

Rush, do you know how many lower income families in the U.S. struggle each and every day? Did you know a large portion of these lower income households do not even have an X-box 360? You don't even care, do you.

You know, I still have an old-fashioned projection tv, one of those massive things which take up half the living room, and I do not have HDTV. This is a really stupid question to those knowledgeable about electronics, but I do not watch much tv and do not keep up with electronics: What do I need to do to get HDTV? Do I need an HDTV tuner to hook up to the tv? Would an upgrade to a new flatscreen tv change what I need to do to get HDTV? Any info would be helpful.

new HD LCDs are WAY cheaper than those old monsters were and look WAY better

HD boxes from the cable companies don't cost any extra anymore, at least here

you need something that kicks out HD quality to get HD video. something like a Bluray player that will upconvert old DVDs. i just bought a PS3 to do that, but the stand alone players have gotten a lot cheaper since then

maybe you should do us all a favor and find some old Reagan videos and stop watching the news and listening to the radio

you don't need HD for that though

The first question is if your old TV is even HD capable - depending on its age it might or might not be able to handle an HD signal.

Then yes, either way you'll need an HDTV box either from your cable or dish provider. Then the question is how to hook it to your TV. HDTV needs at least component video hookups (where the video is carried in three separate cables: one red, one blue, one green) or an HDMI hookup.

If you buy a new flatscreen you would definitely be able to hook up your TV with just one HDMI cable (that carries both audio and video) and I think you would have much better HD quality than if you go for the component video hookups on your projection TV.

yeah, i was kinda assuming it wasn't HD from the description

and don't buy the HDMI cables from Best Buy...

Low income families will struggle no matter what. Doesn't matter how much government takes over because there's just no money to give 300 million people everything. You know who's going to be left out if we got socialist like Europe is? Yeah it will be poorer people. And eventually that won't work so we will have to take away some of the entitlement programs, which is also happening in Europe.

I've always thought that people could be mocked into submission, but I realize now that I was naive. People are too stupid and stubborn to realize when they're mocked.

Thanks, GHP. That answers a lot for me. The projection tv is not HD capable. I recall the salesman said it needed a separate HD tuner and antenna. I think I will get a new flatscreen and then get an HD box from Insight cable.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a flatscreen? I went to a get-together for the Derby, and the hostess had a Vizio tv which had a really nice picture. They are reasonably priced, from what I have heard, and they are an American company, which makes it all the better.
