Heard you guys got him? If so, good get. Hughes, Wade and Anderson are all very good D line prospects.

Yep. He ended up committing to us today. Great pick up for us. Really like how aggressive we are recruiting on the defensive line. We're going to have A LOT of depth on the defensive line for the next couple years.

I had been waiting on this for over a month now. Kind of figured that once we got him Brown would come too. Then we stole Baylor's stud, so guess they prob. won't be playing together now.

Brown is THE stud, though.
Scary good. I'm still holding out for him

Rivals has him down for an offer from Uterus.

Yeah, Mack offered him on our first Junior Day. Then things went South for some reason shortly after. We seemed to concentrate more on Quincy Russell and Anderson wasn't sure that he still had an offer the past couple of months. He wasn't even aware that Russell committed and then decommitted the next day.

With limited schollies, you can't go after everybody. He's a great player though. I think he was quoted as saying he didn't want to move to a city but preferred a smaller college town environment. I think that was the deal.

My guess is utersus offered until he didn't jump at the chance to be a whorn, and then uterus un-offered. Nice way they can then claim they didn't lose a recruiting battle.

Oft repeated falsehood. Not every kid wants to be a Horn and Austin isn't for everyone. And we still have offers out to Malcolm Brown, Aaron Green, Anthony Wallace, Quincy Russell and Josh Turner, any of whom could end up elsewhere. Why haven't we rescinded their offers?

We are very selective with the offers though. Only 29 this year and 30 last year.

Curly Bill

Falsehood my arse. It's common knowledge that Mack's selectiveness in making offers is for the kid to have already said he wants to be a whorn.
Now, will uterus offer a few very high level kids that won't immediately committ, like those you mention ablove, in the hope that they eventually will? Yes.

Herr Scholz
5/7/2010, 02:48 PM
Whatever you say. Common knowledge? More like a widespread conspiracy. But I'm sure you have conversations with Mack Brown.

BTW, Mack beat Stoops head to head for like 15 players in this last class alone. Yeah, he's deathly afraid of a recruiting battle and looking bad.

This begs the question, are you calling Marquis Anderson a subpar player since Mack supposedly pulled his offer and wouldn't hold out for him like these other players? Hmm?

Of course Mack only offered those 15 kids knowing they would committ to uterus. Stoops on the other hand is secure enough to make lots of offers knowing he'll win some, lose some, but at least he's not afraid of that.

Anyway, congrats on the pickup. I didn't come over here to fight, just to share recruiting info. Have a good one.

Nope, I'm guessing Mack saw the writing on the wall and pulled the offer so he wouldn't "lose" a recruiting battle to Stoops.

Fighting is one of the main reasons that I do come here - whether it's with whorns, or socialists over on the SO. :D

I'd say getting commitments from both Darius White and Jackson Jeffcoat were far from certain. Those two went down to the wire between UT and OU and Mack didn't shy away from them. I'm sure you'll explain that away though.

And I avoid political discussions these days. Too much hate.

Yup, those two would fall under the uterus does offer a few very high level kids hoping that they will committ idea. *

OK, so Mack only beat Stoops head to head twice in the last class because the other 13 were already going there and it wasn't a contest to begin with? Is that your contention? :D BTW, we offered Aaron Harris LB last class and lost him to y'all. Why'd Mack ever do that pray tell?

I guess that's pretty good for us then. We don't even have to throw a line in the water, just wait for them to jump in the boat.

That's exactly my contention. I've never argued that uterus has to work very hard to pull in recruits -- all kinds of resources, the flagship university in the football hotbed of Texas, yeah uterus has no trouble pulling in recruits, and that's why Mack can play his ghey little recruiting game.

Why'd Mack offer Aaron Harris the LB a scholly? He's not a super elite player and we lost him to OU. How totally embarrassing.

I'd mention Jamarkus McFarland, Adrian Peterson, RJ Washington, Stephen Good, et al too but I guess those guys are too good and Mack didn't have a choice but to offer, right?

This is not as much fun when you answer your own questions. :D

That's exactly why Mack offered those guys -- he thought he had a legit shot at them, and they were of an elite enough level that even ol yeller-teeth thought it worth the risk of looking like he lost a recruting battle to OU for their services.

I have no answer for Aaron Harris.

I think you might consider that scholarship limits play a big role on who gets offered and when offers expire. You yourself said that are a ton of kids who absolutely jump on a Texas offer. Mack runs out of room quickly.

Take OU's Torrea Peterson (DT) last class. He's a great player and got offered by Mack. But when the other 3 DTs we offered (Taylor Bible, Ashton Dorsey and DeAires Cotton) all committed quickly, there simply wasn't any more room for Peterson. It's not that we didn't want him anymore or Mack was afraid of losing a battle to Stoops. The offer just expired.

Same thing this year. We got Desmond Jackson at DT. There's only room for one more at the position (if that considering last year's class - D line is the one place we could go light on this year) and Russell seems to be the guy they want and who also likes Austin and UT. Nothing against Anderson but the communication and interest just wasn't there. That's how it goes sometimes. Can't get them all. Texas misses on quality players at every position every year. I certainly don't think it was some face saving PR move by Brown like you intimate.

In some instances, like those you mention I would agree with you, but there's a reason that the perception is out there on Mack's recruiting maneuvers.

Anyway, I gotta run (literally) so see ya around. We can argue this stuff another time.

Fair enough. Like I said, not every kid wants to come to Austin. But Mack's not afraid to offer kids who won't eventually end up here. He just doesn't take the shotgun approach like a lot of coaches. He's very selective in his offers. And he requires a visit to Austin before you get one, he doesn't send them out in the mail.
