Tropicana > Minute Maid.

Tropicana comes from Bradenton, Florida while Minute Maid is a subsidiary of Coca-Cola out of Atlanta.

Tropicana is not from concentrate while MM is crap.

UPS will be the sponsor!

Thething missed in all this humor is that fed ex are bastards that don't want to sponsor ANY college football, or so it seems at least.

With as much adspace as they've got going on ESPN, I'd say either Fathead or Under Armour should get a bowl game.

(I vote fathead)

I'd dig it if it was sponsored by Orange (a European mobile phone carrier). Then it could just be The Orange Bowl.

No, it would be the "Orange Cell Phone Bowl" or something similar.

Anyone here ever buy or use a product because they sponsored a bowl game?

You go out and buy a new bottle of Brut after last year's Sun Bowl?

You gotta sell a lot of bottles of orange juice to justify that sponsorship expense.

Exactly... the best move so far is by FedEx, who likely will remain in commercial spots during all football this fall, but they've quit blowing millions to have that name plastered over every pregame show, score update, halftime, etc.

Question: Did anybody watch that movie they kept advertising during the OU/WVU game? I didn't.

It seems like with mid tier bowls that sponsors have ties to the host cities and are sponsoring out of civic duty.

These major bowls, on the other hand, not sure they get much out of being a namesake sponsor... they just get repeated mentions.

Trivia: Our Rose Bowl was actually the Rose Bowl Sponsored by Playstation 2. The players all got Playstation 2's as a bowl gift. The next year, at the Nokia Sugar Bowl, the players got Nokia N-Gages. Guess with video game system they kept and which one ended up on eBay after the game :D

Furniture.com said they got so much national business after sponsoring a bowl there was no way they could keep up with production or effectively ship all the orders, etc.

Shhhh. Bite yer tongue, young'un. Nouveau riche Timmah will hear you and do it.

Slightly OT, I'm waiting for Timmah to show up at the site when the slick hits the FL shore for his photo op, er, mass healing of the wildlife, uh, show of support. Yeah that's it - show of support...

5/5/2010, 08:37 AM
Is it crazy to suggest it becomes... The Orange Bowl? Save the ads for commercial breaks. That's the only way it works anyway. Did Gallery Furniture get all that business from plastering their name on everything from the starting lineup to the injury report... or was it the commercials advertising their great deals?

How long before the NFL playoff games each have a hosting sponsor? "Welcome to the Anheiser-Busch/Budweiser.com NFC Championship Game... presented by Verizon, AT&T, Oscar Mayer, Oreo, Nike, Sony and a nice little million thrown in for a shout-out to General Electric."

There are other subjects, and almost all of us are pretty darn interesting peeps to each other when DC isn't driving us all crazy.
