Reposting this here because I want to post in Collier's offical draft thread.

Dang, it must be really tough having to deal with those types of press questions. He seemed to handle it very well. It makes me proud that he is an Oklahoman and it gives me another reason to follow the team he eventually joins.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/If-rams-love-Sam-why-doesnt-Bradford-have-a-deal

How come Sam isn't a Ram already?
Alex Marvez is a Senior NFL Writer for FOXSports.com.

It's the NFL draft's $50 million question.

Why haven't the St. Louis Rams already told Sam Bradford that he will be the first player chosen Thursday night?

Mind you, I still think Bradford is ultimately heading to the Gateway City. Since the Rams pick first, they could inform Bradford of their intentions at any point before going on the clock. Or they could make Bradford sweat, which the University of Oklahoma quarterback admits is a worst-case scenario.

"I would like to know or have a good idea of where I'm going before tomorrow night gets here," Bradford said late Wednesday morning at an NFL community event in Central Park. "If I walk into that (green) room having no idea, my heart's going to be going nonstop until I hear my name."

Not that the Rams have done anything lately to make Bradford's heart flutter with joy. Bradford said St. Louis has given no indication about his draft standing.

"They've held their cards really close to the vest," he said.

If the Rams felt strongly enough about Bradford as a franchise quarterback, St. Louis already would have plopped its hand on the table. The Rams wouldn't be open to trade talks with another interested suitor like Cleveland even with all the holes that could be filled with extra picks by moving down in the draft. The Rams wouldn't still be singing the praises of defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy as possible No. 1 selections. They wouldn't be talking up Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen during a Tuesday pre-draft news conference.

The Rams would have settled on Bradford at some point last week. They would have started contract negotiations with Bradford's agents to get him signed before the draft and eliminate any possibility of a ruinous JaMarcus Russell-like holdout. Bradford said that he was amenable to signing with the Rams early but the team "never presented a contract."

"If they haven't pulled the trigger, how could there be a contract?" Bradford said.

In general, is it worth the risk of drafting a QB? Yes, have to take the shot. No, one wrong move ruins team.

The Rams have won six games in three seasons, finishing progressively worse each year. They let two marquee signal-callers (Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez) slip away in the past two drafts. St. Louis can't make the same mistake again -- unless they're not completely sold on Bradford and the massive price tag that could include $50 million in guaranteed cash for an unproven NFL commodity.

I asked Bradford why a team that desperately needs a franchise quarterback and has a chance to draft a highly-touted one like himself hadn't already done so. Bradford flashed a polite smile and said, "It's probably a little more complicated than that. Obviously, it's a big decision for their organization. They can wait as long as they want. They don't have to make a decision until tomorrow night. I think they're just weighing their options, making sure that they're 100 percent sure of what they want to do."

Bradford can do nothing more on his end to convince the Rams of his worth. Bradford did every pre-draft passing drill asked of him and proved his surgically repaired throwing shoulder was sound. He met extensively with Rams officials and coaches during private interviews. He got stronger, bulking his 6-foot-4 frame up to 236 pounds. Bradford can't do anything about missing last season and the "fragile" label placed upon him. But his outstanding 2008 campaign -- 50 touchdowns, eight interceptions, 4,720 yards, 67.9 completion percentage – was good enough to potentially make Bradford the No. 1 pick in last year's draft ahead of Matthew Stafford had he turned pro.

"It's definitely been a rollercoaster for me coming off the injury," Bradford said. "There are so many different emotions I've felt over the past couple months. When I decided to have the surgery, you're not nervous but you're anxious to see how your shoulder is going to come back. Sometimes it's a little stressful because when you don't throw a ball in so long, you're not sure how you're going to be able to throw. With only four or five weeks to get ready for my pro day, at times that wore on me mentally.

"But in the end, I realize I'm extremely fortunate. There are guys who would kill to be in this situation. I realize I'm blessed and have tried to have as much fun and go with the flow as much as I can the past couple of months."

The pre-draft ride ends Thursday night, here. A new journey then begins – whether in St. Louis or elsewhere.

"At the end of the day, I realize that's not my decision," Bradford said about wanting to become the draft's No. 1 pick. "I've done everything I can at this point. I've shown them the type of player and person I am. Now it's up to the organization."

Should it be the Rams, that organization sure has a funny way of showing Bradford it's genuinely excited to have him under center.

By contrast, this one made me laugh a little. Yeah, I feel sorry for him with the excessive media coverage putting him in a difficult situation. He is still a talented kid and I hope the best for him.

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/Tim-Tebow-won%27t-attend-NFL-Draft-042110

Tebow won't attend NFL Draft
Alex Marvez is a Senior NFL Writer for FOXSports.com.

The NFL draft will have less star power without Tim Tebow in attendance.

Tebow spurned repeated invitations from the NFL to attend Thursday night’s selection process at Radio City Music Hall. The storied University of Florida quarterback will instead watch the proceedings with loved ones in his hometown of Jacksonville, Fla.

“It was exciting to think about walking up (on stage), shaking the commissioner’s hand and holding up my jersey (of the team that drafted him),” Tebow told FOXSports.com on Wednesday. “That would have been the coolest thing. It made my decision that much harder.

“But I thought it was best to be home with my friends and family. It’s not just an award for me being drafted. It’s for all the people who invested in me during my life. I want to be able to celebrate with those people.”

Tebow estimates about 30 people will watch the draft with him from a family friend’s house. Tebow said he was forced to move the gathering from his parents’ home because of poor cell phone reception where they live.

Projections on where Tebow will be chosen range from the first to second round. But wherever he is selected, Tebow is content in knowing he gave his all trying to improve his draft stock from grueling workouts to revamping his throwing motion.

“There’s nothing else we could have done or prepared harder for,” said Tebow, who praised the support staff assembled by Memphis-based agent Jimmy Sexton. “No one spent more hours training or studying than me. I firmly believe that. I take a lot of pride in that. We haven’t left any stone unturned.

“The draft is going to be exciting for me. I’m going to enjoy the moment.”

I had posted a while back that this year could be a record for most trades in the 1st round...I honestly would not be surprised if the Rams trade this pick...Most likely no, but this team's whole structure is a mess right now and there is no telling what they will do..heck they may go Suh 1 and C. McCoy in the 2nd round like I've heard a few shoot around

i thoink st louis is a tough situation. they really need a franchise qb, but they really need a lot more than just that also. it would be toughj for them to pass on a trade that includwed a first and swecond round pick, imo.

I've thought the Rams were trying to trade their pick for a long time now. They don't need any one player, they need to revamp their team. A top pick cripples them more than it helps, and they probably want to keep away from it. That's why they're not signing Bradford or anyone. If they really wanted the pick they'd have signed SOMEONE by now just to get it over with. Instead, they're keeping their options open hoping that someone will trade up with the chance to draft Bradford, Suh, or McCoy.

The problem they're facing is that trading to the first pick is pointless if you don't want Bradford. Even if the Rams picked Suh or GK a team could trade to #2 and get the other one. At this point they're fairly interchangeable. And there's enough confusion about the QBs in this draft that a team could justify trading for a lower pick and going after Clausen or Colt.

So ultimately I think the Rams are stuck with their pick unless Cleveland really wants Bradford. In which case, it's anyone's guess as to who they take...

Impossible to forecast exactly where he'd go, so way too risky, if they are considering McCoy is their franchise QB.

If they are only lukewarm on McCoy, and "if he's there, great", I'd be fine with that plan.

Agent: Redskins, Browns interested in acquiring Sam Bradford from Rams

The agent for potential No. 1 pick Sam Bradford said Thursday morning there's potential for the St. Louis Rams to draft the Oklahoma quarterback and then trade his rights in the draft tonight.
Agent Tom Condon, who said he has yet to have contract negotiations with the Rams, said he thinks the Washington Redskins (who hold the fourth pick) and the Cleveland Browns (seventh pick) could make a play for Bradford.
"We expect there to be interest," Condon said on ESPN's SportsCenter. "Whether or not that comes to fruition, we'll find out tonight."
Condon said reports that he was seeking $50 million in guaranteed money for Bradford were "inaccurate." He also dismissed a suggestion that he did not want Bradford to play in St. Louis, which has won just six games in the past three seasons combined.
Condon said he thinks Washington, which acquired Pro Bowler Donovan McNabb earlier this month, wanted to have a veteran QB in place to tutor a young player like Bradford.
But he said if the Rams draft and keep Bradford, he anticipates being able to reach agreement on a contract at some point. -- Sean Leahy

Most people will tell you he needs to sit a year anyway.Washington has LT needs and that doesn't bode well for a NFL QB either.

I had told a friend that after Holmgren said they weren't gonna be in on Bradford because they couldn't afford him, that meant that they was gonna see if they could make a move to get him..

As long as Al Davis is the owner there will not be a winning Raiders team.

Do you think the ESPN women's commentators rushed to get Carli's views on this?

Those ESPN arseholes wouldn't shaddap about Big Ben during OU womens basketball's tourney run. They followed this script:

B1tch1: Carlee Roethllisberger...

B1tch2: In case you're wondering, yes, she is related to Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who has been accused or rape and a lot of other random sh!t that we will now list off for you.

(meanwhile, there's a basketball game going on that they are ignoring

B1tch1: Roethlisberger has preferred to not speak about her brother's situation, so of course we are going to take this opportunity to do it instead of her. She says that she ignores the media and that says that if anything important happens, she knows she'll hear from her parents or brother about it directly.

Draft mistakes to be avoided

Teams make mistakes on draft day that can set an organization back for years. The Rams are up first, and have a chance to make a major miscue by going after Sam Bradford, reviving memories of another unfortunate decision.

One general manager told me, "Bradford is Alex Smith (pictured). If he goes to St. Louis, with that offense and lack of leadership, it's going to be rough".

Good thing I'm here to help. It's our annual message to teams, begging them not to blow it during the draft, SCHEIN 9 style.

Same guy here:

No tight end should be picked in the first round

It's not a strong year for first round receivers and tight ends. I like tight end Jermaine Gresham, but injuries are a concern. And if you are a team in the tight end business like the Ravens or Bengals, you can get a player with a higher grade by going with a receiver or addressing needs in the defensive backfield.

btk108
4/22/2010, 03:42 PM
and again:

The Rams should pick Ndamukong Suh and Colt McCoy

They are the Rams. Thus, they'll go with conventional wisdom and select Sam Bradford, sell a few seats, pick a QB who is coming off of shoulder surgery and played in the spread offense and out of the shotgun. Jon Gruden smartly pointed out how Bradford doesn't understand how to avoid hits and getting injured. And when I talked to Bradford on the Sirius Blitz, he didn't exactly sound thrilled about serving as target practice.

Suh, meanwhile, is the best overall player in the draft. He is a dominant, game-changing defensive tackle who will elevate the play of the plethora of underachievers on the Rams defense.

And with pick 33, the Rams should pluck McCoy, who has the accuracy, swagger, and leadership to shut the critics up who say he is too small at 6-foot-1.

But alas, Suh will likely go to the Lions and be an instant impact player in Jim Schwartz's defense. And McCoy will go to the Browns or Broncos and start in 2011.

So basically, what we have here is a situation similar to the Red/White game.

Teams should not take quarterbacks, because they play the same position as Ryan Leaf and demand a lot of money. Tight Ends WR's and others that touch the ball on offense are divas. Running backs only have a few years before they're considered slow, old and injury prone. Lineman on either defense or offense? Borrrrrring! Defense hasn't won a championship since the Ravens made it famous, so you can't draft there.

Thus, your NFL teams and our fans after the NFL Draft and after the Red/White game will be saying:

I've never seen a single guy all over the draft boards like him....

I've heard 24th, I've heard 90-110 and I've heard 200's....so many varied opinions on the guy...

well you can throw out the "200's" opinion, because all it takes is for one team to like him. and you know one will.

Whoops, at pick 32 someone trades up a steals McCoy. As the Rams obviously and blatantly were waiting for him to fall to them.

stoops the eternal pimp
4/22/2010, 04:25 PM
yeah but losing him to someone else isn't that big of a deal..if that happens, they pick up a free agent off season qb (Pennington, possibly jason campbell) and they get a chance at a quarterback next season in a class that is much deeper than this one

rawlingsHOH
4/22/2010, 04:29 PM
Right, but that means they likely don't consider him a franchise QB then. Because if he's out there and you need one, that is who you go get.
