April, 20, 2010 Apr 202:07AM

David UbbenDylan Meier, who played quarterback at Kansas State from 2002-06, has died in a hiking accident, according to the Topeka Capital Journal.

He was 26.

Meier, a Pittsburg, Kan. native, appeared in 35 games for the Wildcats, including 11 starts at quarterback. He threw for 2,287 yards and 12 touchdowns.

His older brother, Shad Meier, played tight end at Kansas State from 1997-2000 and went on to a career in the NFL. Younger brother Kerry Meier just exhausted his eligibility at Kansas and is working toward Thursday's NFL Draft..

Former Kansas State quarterback Dylan Meier died on Monday after falling nearly 100 feet from a bluff while on a hiking trip with his family in Arkansas, killing one of the most beloved Wildcats.

Meier, 26, was on a vacation with his mother and father and brothers Adam and Kerry at the Ozark National Forest 45 minutes from Jasper, Ark., hiking near the Hawksbill Crag in Newton County.

According to Newton County Sheriff Keith Slape, Meier lost his footing and slipped from the rocks where he fell into a ravine and landed on a rock-bedded area among trees.

Happens pretty often, as it happens.

Didn't know that Kerry was his little brother.

Terrible news.

Yeah, people fall of cliffs all the time out here. Stuff like that happens when you have mountains.

So sad, horrible way to die, and for his family to all be right there when it happened, how terrifying for them. Prayers for all.

I knew Dylan's family in Pittsburg, KS. An outstanding family. Dylan was about to leave the States and go to Korea to teach English.

A short article in the Pittsburg Morning Sun newspaper says he slipped on rocks attempting to go higher for a better view. He was on a trip with his family.

God bless and comfort the Meier family and all who love Dylan. Such a heartbreaking tragedy. My heart goes out to them.

Yeah, this is too sad. I really respected him for not rolling over when he was sacked as QB and found a way to contribute on the field. Didn't know him personally but seemed like a "good guy" and was a hard competitor. Peace to his family.

The only good news for this family right now is that Kerry just got drafter by the Falcons in the 34th pick of round 5. Congrats to him and good luck in the NFL. And again my thoughts are with the Meier family.

There's been a few hiking deaths this Winter in Hawaii.

Gosh, I'm surprized it didn't make the National News.

Accidents happen. Don't hike alone.

I don't think he was alone.
