When you're in Times Square, make sure you get a hug from the naked cowboy..

But seriously,

1. Lion King on Broadway
2. Jewish deli, Italian, NY pizza
3. Top of the Rock

In DC Bens Chili Bowl is a must. In a shadier area town but right across the street from the metro.

In DC, go to the Old Post Office. View is equal to that you'd get from the Washington Monument, minus the wait. I'll also second Ben's Chili Bowl as a place to eat. U Street isn't nearly as bad as it used to be, fear-factor wise. Use the Metro to get around. Driving is a nightmare, and the Metro can get you within 3 blocks of anywhere you'd want to be. Also, depending on the day, it might be to go hear Supreme Court argument. If you don't want to stay for a whole argument, they do 3-minute walkthroughs. If you have some time to plan, get advance tix to tour Congress and other gov't agencies. Saves a lot of standing in line and reduces risk of missing out on things.

In New York, Katz' deli and the tour of Madison Square Garden are musts. Skip the Empire State Building and Sardi's.

i consider myself as having a very high threshold of being offended. actually, i'm almost never offended, not even in this case. but something about killing and/or assassinating the president of the united states doesn't sit well with me.

i absolutely couldn't stand bush as our president, but any jokes regarding assassinating him always rubbed me the wrong way. either way, carry on.

based solely on my knowledge that i learned on my 8th grade trip to dc, i would recommend planet hollywood, the hard rock cafe, the three story mcdonalds, and the 4 story mall that has a convienence store inside that sells hardcore porn magazines. we learned so much about our nations capital that week.

lol yep. I went the year before 9/11, during the Summer. The Beer was 7.25 if i remember correctly. prob a lot more now. THE best hot dog that i ever had.

i remember the ice cream man knocked over this true 100% new york Yankee fan's beer, when walking down the aisle

in a Yankee voice

"you spilt my beer, u idiot, go get me another beer... I've already spent 100 dollars on beer"

Im gonna try to atleast get pics at Yankee Stadium, ill be with my parents, step sis, and GF and none of them are big sports fans so I doubt ill get to go to a game...plus like I said, ive only got one day in NY so Ive got to squeeze in as much as possible. If I do run into Obama would it be more appropriate to offern him a fist bump as opposed to a hand shake? :D

New York City is basically another world. Nothing else like it in America, not even close. The amount of buildings in just insane. You will want to go back later in life, guaranteed.

Just walking down the street and people watching is fun.

Its funny, I was on nyc.com and in the visitor section it recommends not standing on the sidewalks to take pics, I just thought that was funny

Beer is priced about $9, yeah, $9. Hotdogs around $8, nachos can be had for around $9 if i'm not mistaken...this taken from a rant of a fan who went last year. Take it for what its' worth.

****, when I get to go.....i'm gonna get some of that prime rib, screw the dogs. :D

4. The concession prices are beyond outrageous. Bottle of water=$5. Soda=$5. Beer=$9. I even saw someone buy a bucket of popcorn for $12. How does a parent take two kids to a game without going into debt? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/extramustard/04/17/yankee-stadium-thorughts/index.html

Worst thing, the beer is PBR?? WTF?

In New York, Katz' deli and the tour of Madison Square Garden are musts. Skip the Empire State Building and Sardi's.

Tour of MSG is a good first stop if you're coming in via Penn Station (aka the MSG basement).

Top of the Rock is a lot better than the ESB. The NBC studio tour is also worth the expense - you get to see the Saturday Night Live stage, for example (a lot smaller than you'd think).

Katz's is definitely worth it, but you're going to spend $18 for a hot pastrami sandwich. The best hot sandwich you'll ever eat, sure, but realize that you're going to spend a metric ton on it.

The NY Transit Museum in Brooklyn is pretty neat as well, lots of old stuff from the subway's past, and at a reasonable value ($5). Of course, the Met and MoMA are definitely worth the trip.

Also, if you're a nature lover, make sure you take plenty of time to explore Central Park. We don't get a very clear picture of how breathtaking it is in there out in Middle America. It's without question the best thing about the city, and free to boot!

As far as pizza goes, you can't do wrong with Grimaldi's in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn. Just be prepared to order early - there's a line fairly quickly around dinnertime.

Make sure to spend plenty of time in Lower Manhattan as well, taking in much of the early (and unfortunately, recent) history of the US that's hidden around every corner. Walk up Broadway down there in the "Canyon of Heroes".

Those are some of the lesser-known ones I can think of off the top of my head. I'll let you know more if I think of them!

As far as DC goes - it's pretty WYSIWYG. See the Supreme Court argue one morning if you can get yourself out there early. It's one of the few functions of gov't you can't see on TV.
