I never get tired of Eruption. Every time I hear it, I am in awe. A friend of mine played it one time and all I could say was that I wasn't worthy.

And best of all, DHS doesn't show up bugging people who erupt.

Eddie's got fast fingers. I bet Valerie Bertinelli misses those.;)

I bet he made her erupt quite often. Maybe she came up with the name of the song....

He met and married her WAY after that was recorded and released....

is it childish that when I read your thread title I laughed out loud before I even clicked on it?

Thats because you know Cru. You had different ideas than Van Halen in your head. :D

I had the greatest hits, I believe, on cassette about 12 years ago or so. I used to listen to that and Aerosmith's greatest hits on my Sony Walkman while I would mow and weedeat during the summers. I know exactly what you are talking about. It goes from Eruption directly into You Really Got Me. I was confused for a while until I learned it was a song all by itself.

I can't listen to greatest hits collections. The songs always seem disjointed when taken from their proper context and haphazardly thrown together.

The man is a freak, amazing. Great memories of my big bro and older cousins, letting me tag along, blaring Van Halen and Boston.

Playing those kinds of licks is not nearly as hard as you might think. But playing them as good as EVH is what is hard.

I hoped to find this live, but oh well. This is one of my favorites.

Plus, you have to wade through all the pop crap they created with Sammy Hagar. Their first two albums are the only ones I consider listenable. (And they're truly great.)

I agree. The first album was epic. The ones after that had 1 or 2 good songs, almost like they were left over from Van Halen I. I never really like Van Hagar that much, although I do like Sammy Hagars solo works.

Most overrated guitar player ever.

There. I said it.

Not overrated. He introduced a new style of guitar playing that has had wide influence. That's worth something.

But I have seen 13 year old's pull off Eruption without a hitch. It can be copied. But how many can originate new approaches to guitar playing? Not many.

I know a lot of kids that run circles around Jimi Hendrix' playing, but he did originate a new sound.

Introduced, but not invented as people think. People like Uli Jon Roth were using the techniques Eddie made fafous long before he came along. He also likes to act like the classical flourishes are his invention too, though Roth and Blackmore and countless others were doing it before him.
