View Full Version : Is it time to make Opening Day a Federal Holiday?

I say yes. Baseball is America's Pastime and as such should get a day when the markets, banks, postal service, and government workers get the day off to support their favorite Major League Team.

As a banker, I would say YES! OH, and opening weekend of CFB shall allow all government agencies, etc to have off Friday leading into that weekend.

You can have the day off on Opening Day, no problem.

The only hole in that suggestion is that currently baseball sucks.

I'd gladly swap it out with any other federal holiday that does not occur during baseball season

It's still bull**** that today isn't a Holiday.

I'm sorta in favor. My Phils don't open until tmrw though. so having today off, while better than working, would probably just frutrate me if my team wasn't scheduled that day.

Baseball sucks, but holidays are awesome.

Folks that think baseball is still "America's Sport" are fooling themselves.

Seriously....i'd totally trade Columbus Day for an Opening Day holiday!

If we can pretend for Columbus Day, we can pretend for baseball.

baseball was a great game up until the early 80s. Baseball has sucked for years and is not a sport. Baseball is like NASCAR....slow, boring, 5 hours wasted. There's no real action.

Opening Day is garbage and has no real meaning. All it does is remind us of how long and irrelevant the game is for 6 months.

Only until tomorrow afternoon. Go Phils! :)

It's amusing to hear many of you bash baseball as not being popular anymore. Probably many of the same people that bashed and "hated" the NBA a few years ago, and who now have season tickets to the Thunder.

I'm afraid Federal Holidays will lead to Unionism.

I'm totally against it.

There shouldn't be any Federal Holidays. People should work 24/7 and just plan holidays around the 8 hours sleep time they get before heading back to work.

Buncha slackers.....

NBA ratings are way up. MLB ratings are up. Fantasy sports makes games interesting that normally wouldn't be.

Man, I hope we can salvage a game. Weirder things have happened though like Houston sweeping a 4 games series in Philly late last year. That being said, I will be happy with one this weekend...please. Phils look salty though. Going to be a good year for the Fightin' Phils.

Wow...just wow. What a way to lose the first game of the year. :(
