my presidential platform:

everyone gets measured for VO2 max - a basic measure of fitness. lance armstrong is one of the highest ever measured - about 95 on a scale of 100. lets say we put a cutoff level of 80. everyone above 80 gets free medical coverage.

let's say 70-79 pay 25%; 60-69 pay 50%; 50-59 pay 75%; under 50 pay 100%.

obviously special circumstances would occur (too many to count right now). but the basis is the more fit you are, the less you have to pay. measurements would be made bi-yearly until whatever the avaerage life-expectancy is for that year... after that age, you pay nothing until yer DEED.

I say that if a restaurant doesn't offer enoughed balance on it's menu in terms of low fat options than the restaurant is required to collect a fat surcharge on ALL of it's sales. Use the revenue to pay for education programs to teach people why they shouldn't eat crap.

Why don't you concern yourselves with repairing your flawed logic patterns, or taking a course on constitutional government rather than with what someone else is eating or doing. Communists

We should also tax people who engage in risky behaviors like scuba diving and equestrian. We should also tax people who drive fast cars. How about people who have high stress levels. How about people who are genetically dispositioned to oops... Gattaca.

Mostly because we want to fix what is at the root of the problem. BTW, I'm taking a Constitutional Law class right now. It's amazing what the SCOTUS comes up with. ;)

Taxes are a punishment. Junk foods cause loads of health problems and put a preventable strain on the health care system, increasing demand and costs for health care services. So with this case, should we not tax what is causing the problem?

The root of the problem is that if you were not trying to subsidize it, it would be the individuals problem. That and the fact that people now seem to think its ok to wipe their *** with the Constitution if it suits their purposes of some service that is provided by others that they think they are entitled to. What happens when the doctors wise up and tell the government to go **** themselves. They ain't working for free. That's what I want - a bunch of dumb****, lazy bureaucrat doctors.

Where does it stop? Driving causes health problems (accidents, stupidity, wars over oil, etc.), playing sports causes health problems (again, broken legs, neck, spinal injuries), watching TV, and the list goes on and on.

It was a problem before Obamacare became law. We are a nation full of fatasses who use our hospitals too much because we are malnourished. Compared to the rest of the world, we don't know **** about nutrition and we eat like it. Now, if something as simple as a junk food tax were in place, would it not discourage people from buying foods that injure yourself?

What the hell do you think medicare and medicaid are? Its a subsidy. Why do you think the poorest in our society are the fattest? Why the **** do you think welfare moms are the only ones spitting out kids like pez these days. Its because they dont pay for it and they have no respect for the cost of it. If they had to spit those kids out on the floor of their project apartment with no anesthetics , they'd quit it.
The protagonists for the nanny/bully state government have strayed so far from the constitution trying to provide for lazy fatasses that they've got themselves buried in a catch 22 that's going to kill the country. If you leftists think you're so smart, why are you arguing that attacking individual freedoms are for our own good (something that is going to bankrupt the country and affects everyone) are acceptable but the govt listening in a overseas conversation to try and prevent a terrorist attack (something that costs relatively little and affects almost none of us) is unconstitutional?

No. It would just be yet another revenue generator and a way to fleece citizens out of THEIR hard earned money.

Why do you think the poorest in our society are the fattest?

I'm not buying that as a reason myself. In reality, healthier foods are more expensive. A fatty cut of meat, 70% hamburger, etc. are just plain cheaper when you are trying to feed a family and people in the minimum wage to 150% of poverty range just don't have the money to buy lean meats and organic foods. The 500 kids thing I can kind of go with you on, but eating healthier costs more and some people can't afford it.

That goes for cheap frozen **** too:

1 Banquet regular TV dinner: 88 cents
1 Healthy Choice TV dinner: $2.50

The Banquet will have 16-20 grams of saturated fat and the HC will have .5 saturated and maybe 5 total fat grams. Compare the price of lean turkey to mystery bologna, potted meat to tuna or chicken, and so on. It's almost universal.

Any more hyperbole? Because that's what this entire paragraph is. I'm not even going to bother to defend the few people who actually do it, too.

Attacking the "individual freedom" of being a lazy fatass is simple common sense. Fat people are unhealthy, usually due to their own lifestyle. They're a strain on my eyes and the healthcare system. They are infringing on your autonomy because you have to pay extra for the demand for health services and the risk they add to your health insurance. To top that off, the Congress has the power to levy a tax on such things. (Art. I, Sec 8)

Ohh and uhh that Patriot Act thing kinda pisses all over Amendment IV. It give the President the power to wire-tap American citizen's phone lines without a warrant.

Yea, on second thought, the people who are going to injure themselves are not going to need to pay it forward.

Besides, it not like this doesn't work, either. People DO stop buying when prices are increased, even if it does impede on "the free market."

Fine, lets start outlawing gay sex. Next we'll move on to driving. Then sports. These are all thing that cause undue levels of the need for healthcare. Next jogging or exercise, just think of all the CO2 we'll prevent. Bicycling, scuba diving. Oh, stairs are a good one, maybe we should require elevators in all homes. There's any number of things we could do to protect you from yourself. You're just too goddamned stupid to realize it.

I think a tax on arrogance should fix most of this.;)

I have no problem with the taxes on tobacco. Why? I don't use it. Why? My grandpa died of mouth cancer from chewing tobacco, my grandmother died of lung cancer from being a chain smoker, and I had childhood asthma until my mom quit smoking. Tax it more. Don't like it? Quit.

I'm not saying the tobacco tax is bad for that reason. He said if you tax something heavily, people will stop buying it. That statement is false based on this example.

The problem with tobacco is that it (cigarettes) contain a drug widely known to cause physiological addiction. Sugary foods do not (well, should not) contain such drugs.

What a farce those words are in America today! "I don't do it so tax the **** out of that other guy". American's used to stick together and demand fair treatment for all, those days are long gone.
