with friends and family members who have small businesses.

So if this health care bill does pass, will you, or those you know who do own small businesses drop the coverage they carry on their employees and leave them to the mercy of the new socialistic universal type health care?

We pay 100% of our employees coverage right now but I'm sure with the big raise in our taxes that this bill will cause I don't see us being able to afford to pay for the full coverage we carry on our employees Blue Cross and Blue Shield plan any longer.

My wife's small business doesn't provide any coverage. basically, all of the employees have spouses who cover them through family plans through the spouses' employer - or occasionally a young single employee will simply have no coverage.

There will be no more small business. The Obama/Pelosi socialist regieme will not allow it.

Big Brother will take care of us all.

From what I gather, there's a penalty on businesses who hire low income workers, to offset the increased gov't subsidy they will get.

I'll do whatever my accountant tells me to, but my company is in a very unique position; we hire really good developers and pay the **** out of them, so the cost of healthcare as a percentage of total payroll costs isn't that significant. We've been fortunate so far in that the folks we've hired have wives working for schools or hospitals so their insurance is better than what we can provide.

I'd like to have an in-depth knowledge of how the bill will affect us, but it's not a factor I can control and my hands are full (and then some) understanding and managing the factors within my scope of power.

How can they answer this question when no one knows exactly whats in this bill? Even those voting on it today don't know I would wager.

Well, we know there is a fine for not providing insurance, but that fine is less than providing a policy. I heard the number $700 floated out there.

The passage of this bill will continue to suck the life out of the American entrepreneurial spirit. Which is what our economy...our way of life is based upon.

And it is evident that's what this lawless regime is out to accomplish.

They will all be reported to the Department of Homeland Security.

If I were a Democrat voting "NO" I'd be scared to death. The IRS would bury me. Sort of like what the KGB used to do to dissidents.

As a small business owner myself, I have no idea what I will do. I am lucky that all of my employees save myself are covered under the Insure Oklahoma plan. That way I can have full coverage for all of them yet they only pay 15% and I only pay 15%. It's not perfect but it is really good for me.

My biggest concern is my clients. Since I have a medical billing company that caters to small 1-2 provider practices, this plan will impact them significantly and in turn my business. I am proud to say that all of my clients are physicians are in it for the medicine and not the money. This leaves them with over 75% of their patients being on Medicare or Medicaid. Most of them have said they could very likely close up shop if this plan is forced down their throats.

I just wish these Congressmen could remember that everyone already has access to healthcare. If they can't afford something, then they need to work harder for coverage not wait for it to be handed to them. We are guaranteed the PURSUIT of happiness not happiness it self. I personally like living in a meritocracy.

Does this mean the invitation to dinner is off?

Ok, Ok, I apologize if I hurt your feelings, got you in trouble, or upset your lady friend Tailwind.

I was just joking like I always do.

I surrender!

If I were a Democrat voting "NO" I'd be scared to death. The IRS would bury me. Sort of like what the KGB used to do to dissidents.I believe the democrats aren't as independent as you might believe. Those voting "no" were allowed, or directed to do so, since the number of "yes" votes was adequate to pass the bill. 34 dems(the no voters) have a better chance of being re-elected, probably with having a "no" vote on record on the Obamacare bill. IOW, they weren't REALLY defiant of the dem position, IMHO.

from what i have gathered concerning small business owners is that it will ultimately save them money by allowing them to put thier employees on group benefit plans.

this comes from the congressional budget office, who predicts this will be the largest defecit reducing legislation we will see in our lifetime, bringing it down by about 150 billion dollars over the next 10 years.

how many times have we heard that the deficit will reduce by X amount of dollars over time, it never seems to work out like they promise

worked in 94 when not a single republican voted for clinton's defecit reduction plan.

you can say he didnt have anything to do with the boom of the internet, but who knows what new technologies will develop in the next decade. for all we know someone will actually build a portable sustained cold fusion reactor and we'll all be driving our cars on tap water.

just give it a chance. if it doesnt work, we can go back and try something else. the cost of doing nothing was far far greater than what we ended up with.

not sure if that will be the same with health care though

Social Security is broke, when we gonna fix that? The Great Society doesn't work, it's the opposite of working. When we going to fix that? Our tax system is a disaster, we going to fix that? Congress never fixes anything, they just keep adding to it calling it a fix. And before you know what hit you...National Health Service. Britain is broke and it's never getting fixed, we're next.

So, GKeeper, why did you never respond to my link about the CBO in the other thread? You sure seem to trust their projections...

The article I linked to was about the director of the CBO, specifically how he denies that universal preventive care will lower costs.

What is your opinion on that?

You will have to now...

That or hope and hire no one that needs medical coverage. I see future lawsuits in hiring discrimination coming your way...

My BCBS premium goes up by $50 next month....with no claims in the last three years....and that claim was for an dependent injured in an auto accident....the other drivers insurance reimbursed BCBS 100%

Scott D
3/22/2010, 09:42 PM
BCBS has been sued by multiple states for their premium raising practices in the past, and that will likely continue into the future.

From what I've heard (from a Fox reporter no less) is that the bill impacts large corporations a lot more than it does small business, so it's advantageous to small business in that way. Also, as it sits, there's no real discernible changes for anyone until at least 2014.

Who are the winners here? I mean really, who get's the benefit from this package?

Honestly, the best I can tell it's either seniors getting that so-called donut hole closed or people who work and earn enough to be ineligible for Medicaid but not enough to pay for any existing insurance. In that second category, speaking from my adventures through life as a poor bastard, I'm thinking the "dads" in those families where the kids and mom get Medicaid but the dad doesn't get dick since he makes more than 20 grand a year.

I'm a rare person who has very little actual opinion o all of this and I'll wait and see how it pans out. Ask me how this bill is working out in 10 years.
