what are your top 5 favorite pwrformances by someone? not necessarily the best of all time, but the 5 performances that you liked the best, that stuckk with you after the movie, or that entertained you the most. 1. Val Kilmer-Tombstone. my personal favorite performance ever. 2. Ed Norton- American History X 3. Tom Hanks- Philadelphia. When he walks out od Denzel Washingtons offive for the first time, he actually looked like he really had aids and was having to come to terms with it. 4. Leo Dicaprio- The Departed. Biggest oscar snub in 20 years, imo. He didnt even get nominated for it, but did get a nom for Blood Diamond that year. 5. Denzel Washington- Man on Fire. His greatest performance of his career, imo.

1) cary grant in his girl friday
2) kevin spacey in the usual suspects
3) brad pitt in snatch
4) alec baldwin in glengary glenn ross
5) edward james olmos in stand and deliver

and as a side note... tombstone was one of the worst movies ever made and to this day i still cant figure out why so many people love it. im your huckleberry? what the **** does that even mean??? not to mention the gross historical inaccuracies of the script... i mean, come on they completely left out the 4th earp brother for ****s sake!

the only good thing about the whole movie was the exchange between billy bob and kurt russell. you gonna do something or are ya just gonna stand there and bleed? that was funny.

I went back and looked at the list of Best Actor nominees over the last twenty years and these are some performances that really stood out to me:

Michael Douglas in Wall Street
Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs
Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump
Russell Crowe in The Insider
Daniel Day Lewis in The Gangs of New York
Adrien Brody in The Pianist
Sean Penn in Mystic River
Phillip Seymour Hoffman in Capote
Daniel Day Lewis in Their Will be Blood*

*This is to me probably the best performance ever.

Kurt Russell as Jack Burton in Big Trouble in Little China.
Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice.
Kevin Spacey as John Doe in Se7en.
Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
Nicolas Cage as Dr. Stanley Goodspeed in The Rock.

i just don't get the hard-on for that guy

Part of it stems from the fact that DDL has always been very very careful in the selection of roles.

fwiw, My Left Foot and In The Name of the Father are far better performances than some of his more recent ones.

Javier Bardem in No Country For OleVet..er Old Men.

Walken in The Dead Zone is a highly underrated performance.

Lee Marvin & Toshiro Mifune's performances in Hell In The Pacific

and William Holden in Stalag 17 (with special mention to Robert Strauss as Animal)

Anybody who says fail when talking about Big Trouble in Little China should've been an abortion and will hopefully burn in Hell.

As for the others, they're good movies. If you disagree...it's obvious you're an Obama loving communist who eats babies and stomps on kittens for fun while urinating on your grandmother's grave.

I don't know if they're my top 5, but some memorable acting jobs were:

Jack Nicholson - A Few Good Men (Cruise couldn't carry his jock).
Jack Nicholson - As Good as it Gets (Greg Kinnear was good too)
Sir Richard Harris - HPATSS and/or A Man Called Horse
George C. Scott - A Christmas Carol and/or Patton
R. Lee Ermey - Full Metal Jacket (the movie is a complete POS, but R. Lee rocked in his role)
Alan Rickman - all HP flicks, Robin Hood, and several others

Gary Oldman State of Grace as "Jackie Flannery" West Side Irish Mob Flick that propelled him to stardom.

Limiting this to Top 5 is awfully hard.

I would say my Top 3 no doubt are O'Toole in Lawrence (that is my all-time favorite), Wayne in True Grit (I know most feel that was his lifetime acheivement award, but I disagree, he was brilliant), and De Niro in Raging Bull. I have a very hard time not including Hackman for The French Connection -or- Mississippi Burning, Scott for Patton, Newman for Cool Hand Luke, or Nicholson for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest -or- Chinatown. So many great ones. I had to include Bogart... but which one? Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, Sierra Madre, or Key Largo?

Technically it's not really a remake. They went back to the original novel as opposed to the original script. The movie will actually have significant differences that set it apart from the original movie.

No, not rillay. Ok or good, but not great. And it sure as **** does not belong on the 5 greatest of all time.
I'm sorry if you think that because you might have no taste in acting or knowledge of it if you think otherwise. Playing indignant is SOOOO HARD!! So is playing a straight guy for Tom.
Tom CAN be decent actor and sometimes not, but this role is weak and easy to pull off for any Hollywood pretty boy (hence, not even "snubbed"). And Tom is as stiff in the role at times as what's his name from the Twilight movies that the teeny boppers love.

Very little of the role involved being "indignant." Most of it involved portraying the insecurity and fragile ego of a trial attorney which is common among young gifted attorneys in the profession. I don't think it's a top 5 but it was a good performance by Cruise. Your opinion is as relevant as something else everyone has.... rillay, srsly.
