compared to 2009?

Lost a first round draft pick. + another senior (Simmons). and Eldridge, who even mixed in some free safety last year.

Numbers coming back, experience and attitude at this point is better per Stoops. That's all you can really say for now. I think just having the depth back from injury and an entire year under their belt, plus all of those heart-breakers last year has to motivate you in the off-season, but we won't know until we see a little work.

It's the interior D-line that worries me.

We have a lot of guys that played on the line last year and got a lot of experience. We won't have as many injuries as last year.

We *hope* we won't have anymore serious injuries...

This^^^, and the maturity factor. I know we had Trent Williams last year and of course are losing him, but really: how good was he last year?

In a Stoops type way

i just was way to overconfident last year, coming off a 2008 type OLine.

We now lose, we'll say "2" more starting OLine guys, from a horrible Oline.

I don't see it getting any worse. But it wouldn't surprise me if it stayed around the same.

Anybody hoping for a "HUGE" change is going to be disappointed...

One main positive i think we will get out of them is less penalties.

just my take

Because we really, really want them to be better ?

If we just have the statistically normal amount of injuries resulting in continuity, we'll be better. Don't know how much. I thought the pass blocking actually did improve 2nd half of the year last year. Run blocking - not so much.

i think we need to find a way to run against texas...

The OL was pretty bad in 2001 (and 2005), but got better in 2002 (and 2006), helping the team win a Big 12 title (or two). History says they will improve, and most of the guys who saw the field last year will again this year, with added experience, time in the weight room, and hopefully fewer injuries. The conference will have a bit of a down year this season, which will help. I'm not saying that we will win the Big 12, but I don't think it will be out of the question. Then again, it's way too early to be speculating about that.

World cup? That's such a sissy sport. Freeze me until the Tour De France - a manly sport where they wear spandex and shave their legs ;)

This. Used to play offensive line and since being a spectator, this was the worst o-line I've seen in college.

And majorly this. Injuries played a big part of the disappointment last year, both on the o-line and elsewhere.

I think OU will win the conference, due at least partially to the fact that the conference as a whole will have down year. What OU does beyond the conference standings has a lot to do with how they handle their out of conference schedule which is harder than average.

What? The Confederations Cup means nothing. It's just an exhibition tournament held a year before the World Cup in the same country.

It was kinda cool, but at the same time, I'd rather have that kind of performance in a World Cup, when it would actually matter. If you want another international tournament to watch that means something and has great soccer, watch the European Championship. It takes place in the even years between World Cups.

There has been a very evident rebuilding pattern.

2001, lost our 2 best (Romero, Duncan), yet considerably better in 2002

2005, lost our 2 best (Joseph, Chester), yet considerably better in 2006

2009, lost our 2 best, I'm betting, considerably better in 2010

Ya dig?

Last year we had something like 80 different injuries on the offensive line. I wish I were exaggerating but that's probably accurate. I don't see that happening again. And with all the experience all those injuries gave us we'll be fine on the offensive line unless we have 80 different injuries on the line again.

KantoSooner

Here's a theory that addresses 'why':

Other than timing pattern coordination between a QB and a receiver, the line has to play 'together'. For reasons of youth and injury, last year's line hadn't gelled and didn't gel until very late in the year if ever.
This year, they will at least have more experience in games and in playing with each other. Although it is not impossible, it is not probable that we will have the number of injuries we had last year.
Thus, they should be better.

Will that theory hold up? Hell, I don't know. But I hope so.

AD helped a lil in 2006.. I don't think any back on our team could do that this year. not even close. AP and Brown did step up tho.

I mean i guess its really would be hard to get less than -18 rushing yards against texas this year.. :D :D

I think the oline should be better. But it aint gonna be a night and day difference.

limit the penalties and we are probably one third of the way there .

well you gotta have faith in the coaches, we know the talent is there. I dont see Stoops being embarrassed two years in a row by not being able to get a 1st and goal from the 2 against a team like Idaho st

Hopefully, a leader will emerge for this unit. TW was the obvious choice last season, but he either wasn't up to it or didn't want it.

Is Brandon the man? Brandon may be the only OL that has seen pt on a Big XII championship team?

rushing yards for a team throwing the ball a lot in a college game are so misleading, since every sack statistically goes in as a negative rush.

maybe, maybe not

but judging by the small sample sizes in the stoops era, it HAS been night and day different.

This thread is soooo hard to assess.... Even in the spring the line-up changes too often. One day Ikard is the starting center, the next Habern is. One day the Don is the left takle and the next Mensik is making head way. Now Ikard is making his way to being a great gurard.... Man, who knows until kickoff. I'm already confused reading these articles the coaches are giving to the press. I just want to see improvement.
